Steam Deck can emulate PS3 to varying degrees of success but the SD card slot isn't fast enough to support the emulator. Youll have a better time running it off the internal SSD

The problem with collections like these is that it is so often quantity over quality, and there are only a handful of games which are worthwhile. I think I prefer just having that handful and keep some space on the SD card.

@StezStixMix sorry steve can i ask. Ive got no experience of this type of thing. I have similar to what u have but with usb stick. If i put that into an sd coveter for the steam deck that would eork the same or somthing else to consider? Also does duel booting damage the deck if done on a consistent basis or normal and fine. Lastly i can see you use the volume and power button to go into the booting screen but how do you get bsck to the steam OS? Do u simply press the power button off and when it powers up automatically would be in steam.OS system?sorry for all the questions btw, thsnks Patrick

If you're used to using your tablet for things other than gaming, then I would just buy a new tablet. Replacing it with a steam deck is like switching an iPad for a Nintendo Switch. If you're only looking for gaming, then go for it, because it is a multi media platform and you'll have more gaming options.

Steam Deck is essentially a mini laptop with a screen and a controller, if that sounds something you want instead of a tablet then go for it, just take note that its isn't as portable or light as a tablet. Its a PC, just a lot smaller.

The share file is blocked in red basically you cannot add roms because it says permissions denied , that's through desktop mode then look for sd card , also dosnt show all files if plugged into a laptop , so I'm confused how you'd add your own roms and delete the crap off you don't want ... anyone know ?

I will try to make this short. Since it's probably a permission issue you just need to right click the device in explorer or the folder with everything in it and go to properties. Once open you need to click on the security tab then click the advanced button at the bottom of the window. Now you will see an owner text with a change button next to it, click it. Next a new window will pop up and in this window select advanced at the bottom. Now in this new window look for a button on the right called find now as we need it to search for available users. This will populate a list on the bottom of the window. Now you need to select your username or just administrators if that is what account you usually run as. Click one of the two either admins or your username then click okay. Then your back to the last window just hit okay. Now you're back to the advanced security window and you need to hit apply in the bottom right hand corner then hit okay. Now you should be back to the security tab in properties. Lastly click edit to change permissions. In this tab you should see your username or admin and when clicked the bottom of the window will show you all of the things you can do with check marks. After clicking edit click your username name and then click full control now hit apply and close. Now you have changed the owner to you and gave yourself full control over the files in the folder you selected properties on. This is important that there will be a check box that says apply these settings to all contained files, this needs to be checked for both ownership changes and permissions, off the top of my head I do not know where these will be only that they will be listed as you navigate the menus discussed above. The last thing that could hide files from you would be in view and you would just need to select show hidden files which is just a check box. This process is called changing ownership of a file or folders and then changing permissions both of which have videos on YT that will explain better than I could in text. I found a website that makes the software on the SD card with all the games preloaded and I've downloaded it and I have a really nice 256 gig SD card that reads 130MB a second and the loading time for tomb raider for PlayStation was around 30 seconds and once I got into the game it was just fine this is also possibly a different build for the SD card but it was very possible that they just sent him the slow SD card as a review unit I have noticed though with switch games it's a bit demanding and takes like a minute and 30 seconds which is really long

First time a PS3 game loads it has to compile shaders. They will then be saved and next load will be much faster. It's a bother, but in fairness, that is the case for many steam games as well. That's why you get pre-compiled shaders downloaded with steam games. To save on that time. The Steam Deck will emulate quite a few PS3 games well from SD card, with a long first startup time, and then much faster startup.

I jus purchased it from aliexpress 512gb micro for 58 $ but when i get what do you think is it a good idea just do a back up and copy the micro on to the pc if anything happens and i can always buy a new sd card and just copy the files back ?

Always add your own emulation software, apps and games yourself. The reason for my opinion is you can get multiple updated builds for your system and choose your own optimized games.

Wii and the WiiU actually emulate great on the Steam Deck, and almost every game I've played works flawlessly. Hell, even most Switch games run great, so Nintendo emulation and the Deck are a match made in heaven.

Yeah Wii and Wii U run great, but a lot of games need pointer or gyro support, which makes it a pain for me. I hear there's ways to get it working, but I'm having issues . Games with normal control support like doney Kong tropical freeze, or Zelda Hyrule warriors, are ideal I'd say

@@donniedarko4497 Got it working on the day I bought a Switch Pro controller, just make sure to set up the controller both in CEMU and in SteamOS (when the game runs) ,in Steam OS there is an option for Gyro that needs to be enabled. I've put mine on active ( 'as joystick') when I use the bow.

The PS3 emulation of watching a really slow upload and then an update, is amazingly accurate to a real PS3 the first time you feed it a game

I am glad you were honest with yhe review on this. I was considering buying this but i will just do my own emudeck setup with games i want and know i will play. I hate that all these sellers are just loading these cards with tons of games that most people will not play. Pointless.

I bought an SD card image off of ebay for a fiver a couple years back that had all that, all setup in a GUI and all I had to do was download it from a server, the image size was 32gb with 70,000 unique entries including MAME etc, even had the fruit machine I worked on as my first job doing my C&G Computers and Electronic Engineering as the college had a contract with JPM and my pet work on was Reel Crazy (seen in Only Fools and Horses Jolly Boys Outing at the halfway house) and I knew the machines patterns like my hand so always cleaned 'em out whenever I saw one hehehe

This is a step above those stupid little hard drives that you buy that just have the games and emulators on them for a computer. But it also comes with its own bag of potential problems. Not every seller is going to be using a reliable SD card. You put a hundred hours into the games on it and next thing you know boom the nand flash goes bad. Or the controller goes bad. Regardless, on a micro SD card you're not fixing that.

It's not that it's hard for the steam deck to emulate Wii or GameCube... It's that the more advanced that the CD-ROM game is the more data it takes up.. if a person wanted they could take a 1tb sd card and put nothing but wii games on it

@@deifififodps093kckck You need to elaborate ?I just didn’t carpet bomb my setup with rom pack after rom pack.I took certain games i like from certain consoles/arcade machines then manually put them onto my steamdeck.Had to convert my switch roms to .xci files which took a while.Its easy to fire a loaded sd card into your unit then wade through 90% of the crap on there,thats the bit i cant be bothered with.

@@tambias so your issue is with the Roms rather than the setting up of emulators as a whole. That’s not a problem that emudeck can solve given the legality of rom distribution. The fact is that emudeck is basically a one click solution now, how you load that up with Roms is entirely upto you.

At the end of the day this is piracy, and the fact that you’re just running this sd card and whatever executables it has on it without vetting is very dangerous. Steamdeck is a target and well known if you’re just letting this run who knows what it’s doing. It’s a bad idea no matter how ‘cheap’ it is.

In fact it should not matter because Linux or Windows is just the installed OS. It would make more sense to specify the architecture is compiled for, like x64 or ARM, but I guess that would be more confusing for many people.

@@imaginitivity7853 No, because it's not just ROMs. It's a whole Linux custom OS with a Retroarch/Libretro frontend and it has to be compiled for a target architecture. The Steam Deck and the SNES Mini have very different architectures, so it's not directly interchangeable.

Having spent more hours than I care to admit trying to get my Snes mini set up using Halkchi to do what this card does I thought I'd be sold by your assessment of this card, but I'm not really. 1. The more I actually try this 'retro gaming experience' the more I find myself underwhelmed by the games after all the effort to get them installed and working. 2. Lack of box art is really lame. Doing that after the fact through Hakchi is a faff. I think in the end, instead of a mass import, I'm going to selectively find the 5-10 games of the available systems worth playing and import them singly or in small batches. I hard wired an SD card adapter internally to the mini and with a 128gb card could go nuts. But I think actually, going quality over quantity a 64 or even 32gb will suffice. Still, I've now got a bunch of games to delete and start again. But I think the end result will be worth it
