Sth. Pac. Ep. 11: Sailing from Fiji to NZ (but ending up in NC)

We enjoy our last days in Fiji at Blue Lagoon, then, after bidding pals farewell, we check out at Denarau. A few days into our journey, the unfolding forecast looks horrible at the NZ end of our trip. The wind was sending us west anyway, so we turned right and headed to New Caledonia. Friends we had just farewelled greeted us with bread, cheese and croissants. It's a quick, and fun time in Noumea while we wait for a weather window to continue on towards NZ.
Oh, and we helped a man to be rescued.

I enjoyed that! I almost did the same thing this past season, in fact spent two days of delightful downwind sailing towards NC, but eventually changed my mind and fought my way down to NZ, seven days of upwind sailing and a torn jib was the result, but I made it.
