I love that in his version it says that her mom forgot that he existed but in hers you can tell that the mom recognized him from even across the road and obviously talked to her daughter about it when he avoided her. It's heart breaking how we can get so wrapped up in our own grief that it can completely change the narrative in our heads.

Stick Season builds so much emotion towards HIS heartbreak. It’s the heartbreak the listener attaches to. This version adds so much depth as it shows that heartbreak is a two way street, even if we don’t want to believe it.

Wow. There's so many lines in your original song that hit me like my a hundred pounds dropped from my chest to my gut. Lines like the darkness inherited from dad and thinking you can somehow just pile enough good on top, I wish I couldn't relate to that as well as I do. And the bit about "I dream each night..." That is such a beautiful piece of poetry that sums up so well that moment you realize you made someone up in your head who wasn't actually on the other side of that relationship. But her re-write of that line, dude, if someone had stabbed me right through the heart with a physical blade when that line landed, I wouldn't have felt the blade.
