Just checking in again with this video, just to see Greg after he’s so recently departed from us. For me, Greg has left behind many passions and one is to get to this DBR tuning. Another excuse for a third stick! Lotsa luv to all. Stickrad

This is a well chosen and excellently produced demonstration of the Stick's flexibility.

I don't own a tapping instrument, and I have never played one... But I'm interested... Thank you for helping me gain some understanding of this wonderful instrument...

I have 2 other ideal tunings, and they’re called the Cajun tunings for a dual bass reciprocal tuning. The first Cajun tuning is the low B flat, which is a semitone lower than that B tuning; and the low F tuning, a fourth & a semitone lower than that low B tuning. Those Cajun tunings would be awesome & great.

Thanks Greg! This is a useful reference beyond the DBR tuning. I'll be fixing my intonation tonight for sure. Not sure I really got it "perfect" after switching to baritone melody.

That's one of my personal favorite KZbin videos and dual reciprocal bass tuning. Hopefully you should also make the middle string a low G string for a dual reciprocal bass tuning, a fourth below the low C string standard a.k.a., a fourth lower than the tuning you have there. Ya know? Awesome tuning though. Perfect for plugging into the bass amplifiers, preamplifiers, PA systems and even subwoofers. Nice fit, too.

That's one of my personal favorite tunings. The lowest note on other chapman stick dual bass should be a low G below the lowest C.

I might have missed it but did you mention adjusting the truss rod at the back of the instrument to compensate for thicker strings. Actually I was only thinking of changing from light to medium gauge in classic tuning. I might also consider tuning every string down a tone with the medium gauge which I guess would lessen the pull from the strings. Thanks.

Please, Per, I'm not responsible for this... playing those bass 4ths with the right hand is really, really fun.

Yes, I can imagine that! It would be great fun to be the bass player with a DBR Grand in an "aggressively free form jazz shred" trio/quartet (thinking back at great concert moments I've heard where Bill Laswell played bass on a baritone guitar with whammy bar. That spirit, but on a DBR Grand, wow man...)

Very educational Greg, and a great presentation. I am wondering if basically the same techniques apply to changing the gauge of strings, say from light to medium? Thank you again for a very insightful look into some of the mechanics of the Stick!

Yes Warrren, but the changes will be more subtle. Maybe a half-turn at the bridge screw if needed. Also, pay attention to whether a string changes from a plain to a wound string. in the 4ths, the lowest pitched plain string in a set is slightly longer than the 1st wound string. Hope that makes sense!

Thank you so much Greg! Yes it does make since to me after really studying this video. I also want to thank you personally for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer my question.. It really means a lot to me. I have been playing the Stick for almost 2 years now, and with the help of your instructional video, and your numerous You Tube posts, I now have gigs pending, as well as my first solo album with the Stick as the featured instrument. Being a bassist for close to 20 years now, you have helped make the transition that much easier. I am inspired by your music, and really appreciate your dedication to the instructional aspect of it as well.. I hope to one day to meet, and thank you personally, at one of the numerous Stick functions in the near future.. I hope! Thank you again!

I have a rosewood stick, would I use a different oil for that than the "dark walnut"?
