I live and work on a large tobacco farm; we have 8 tractors, never a day passes when something doesn't need repairing. I'm 70-ish I have only ever welded with stick, no wire. The smallest stuff is 2"x3/8 angle or 1/2" stock or thicker and almost always in the field and rarely in a shop setting. Almost never is the weather agreeable or any position comfortable. No one taught me anything I learned completely on my own over 50 years ago working on large oil tankers (ships) and offshore oil platforms. I learned everything the hard way, in some cases I was fortunate to remained employed. I appreciate these videos immensely as I can see many things I need to relearn. Thank you for this valuable opportunity ! Even at my present age I am always eager to learn.

Good for you Charles. You’re never too old to learn something new. I’m 68 and just enrolled in a welding class at the local community college. Lots of fun!

I'm trying to learn by watching as many videos as I can fit in. Some times I miss parts. I can't seem to figure out if it was said or not. Q: do you knock off the slag and brush the work before laying down an additional bead? Thanks for the video, well done.
@CharlesM-dp4xe3 жыл бұрын
@@jeremykristopher4081 I always clean everything I do, especially fills that require multiple passes (Layers) . Most stuff I fab or repair will have to be primed and painted as well. You want to reduce as much exposure to oxygen as possible . Also, videos may help but practical experience will teach you more ... patience helps, don't forget safety . Good luck !

@@jeremykristopher4081 Yes! You want the new bead to see the metal of the last bead, not the slag! Nothing to be gained by leaving that stuff on there, some of it might get caught in the weld, and you have slag inclusions....

As a 60 something noob to welding, this is my reference video. Thanks Natalio and Tulsa Welding School for helping those of us too old to spend time in school, but who still want to learn how.

Natalio, I’ve logged about 5 hours watching beginner SMAW videos on KZbin. The hour I invested in your tutorial and can emphatically say that you addressed questions I had about angle, speed, rod gap and dry run prep. Moreover, your detailed tips and demonstration touched on areas not covered by other YT sites. Outstanding tutorial, no small wonder that you are Director of training at Tulsa. I’m 62 and just purchased a multi process welder as I have some projects in my future. I’ll search your channel for more instructional videos. Gracias hermano. Que vive la raza!

💯 agree w/ other comments. I’m 57, a woman who adapts to anything I try or learn. I’m in a beginner 10 week program @ my local college. We will be obtaining a certificate. When I start something new I jump in feet first. You’ve taught me more on this video than I’ve learned to date of my class or any other Y.T. 4 more weeks of class 😅Your demeanor & pointers are superb! We all learn differently. Conditions are never the same in the field. I feel my instructor means well tho isn’t very helpful tip wise until you really struggle. Then still the minimum..I get that to a point. But basics that you covered are huge & then some! You’ve gained another follower. Thx so much! 👊🏼😎👊🏼

Your brother is a joke and the way he runs the welding course is a joke. They just take students money and pass students through different phases even if they suck at welding. Tulsa has a horrible reputation out in the field and companies don’t hire people that went here. I’ve took a look around and noticed 90% people takn the last phase aka bend test. NONE CAN WELD DECENTLY. THEY LEGIT PASSING STUDENTS WITH BROKEN BEND TESTS. I’m Legit Shook that this place isn’t shut down.
