Everytime a modern era cb is added to the HoF without Lester the molester being honored makes the HoF a bigger joke than it already is. Today if a cb gets 4 picks in a season they are labeled "shutdown". 😂 Lester had 13 regular season ints followed by 5 in the playoffs. That is a career for today's jokes. He was the DPoY that yr and and has two rings. HoF is a popularity contest and a joke. Tatum should be in too. Only reason they both aren't is because they are raiders. Snake and Branch not getting in until after death is a crime. Brown and Wisenewski should have been first ballot.

THIS dude. He is absolutely one of the very, very, best to ever play. His patented pre-snap crouch was so singularly cold-blooded it looked like a cobra ready to strike. Or a vulture. Nike put him up on city billboards across the U.S. He and Mike Haynes (Haynes & Hayes) were the absolute best duo back there. Quiet Mike Haynes (HOF) was the best "shut down" corner ever, before Deon Sanders. He may very well have been better. The Jedi is being jobbed. If Fred Biletnikoff is in the HOF, then so should Lester. Fred was the first and most infamous user of stickum. Lester also endeared the country when, after that Super Bowl (or a playoff game) he involuntarily revealed, on national television, that he had a world-class case of stuttering. It was a surprising and painful thing to hear him struggle to speak coherently. The on -air attention brought him the help he needed and starting the following year, he revealed he was also an articulate and hilarious world class, rapid-fireTrashTtalker. You could not shut him up. It's one of the most amazing transformations I've ever seen. An NFL HOFer for certain!

Hayes had arguably the greatest season a DB has ever had in 1980. He was the single biggest reason the Raiders won the Super Bowl that year as well.. The man was as good as he was cool. It is an absolute crime that he is not in the Hall of Fame

Biletnikoff must have high fived Hayes to have got all that stickum on him in order to have caught all those TDs' It is funny, but I recently saw a Raider fan questioning why Jack Tatum was not in the HOF. He was the hardest hitter. And I stated you do not put someone in the HOF just because they were one of the hardest hitting DBs'. Now Lester Hayes is a player who has worthy credentials. If I had the choice of drafting Hayes or Tatum, I am picking Lester Hayes. And I respect the Tatum fans who feel otherwise. Hayes could cover like a blanket, and most coaches, and fans saw that during Raider football games when he prowled the secondary. He had the unique ability of knowing where the football was. He would have made an impact with any NFL team. That is why you put him in the HOF.

In 1980 and in 1983 Lester Hayes intercepted a pass in each playoff game leading up to both SB XV and SB XVIII returning 2 of them for TDs. In both those Super Bowls Hayes shut down HOF WRs Harold Carmichael and Art Monk.

Stick-I’m didn’t give home speed, intellect, the ability to position himself to make all those interceptions, the brains to out think and outplay some of the greatest receivers and Quarterbacks of all time!!! This man was one of the most physical corners to play in the NFL and the use of stickum should not impact his Hall Of Fame resume. The man is a Living Legend and should been inducted into the NFL Hall Of Fame. Whoever is on that committee that doesn’t think Mr. Lester should not be in the Hall Of Fame is a clown and definitely doesn’t need to be on the decision making committee. This was a great interview on Mr. Lester Hayes. You don’t get the impact of a true Legend all the time and he definitely deserves the NFL Hall Of Fame. That’s why you watch football because it’s a physical contact sport. He was better than most and physical skills could never be disputed and I’m quite sure every Raider fan greatly appreciated his contributions to the game and the success they had during Mr. Lester Hayes’s era.

I got to meet Lester in Tahoe after his first Super Bowl win. I was watching some players playing the roulette wheel when I noticed a Super Bowl ring next to my right hand. It was Lester Hayes. I shook his hand, (no stickum) and we chatted for a few minutes. He belongs in the Hall of Fame most definitely.

I did meet that guy, Lester Hayes in Boise, Idaho back in 1994. He told me that he liked my good arms and I thanked him. In 1980's when I was a student in California School for Deaf in Riverside. I was in flag football team, I was a backup lineman but I don't like it as backup except being a starter but I was a dreamer and being bullied by some jerk deaf students.

Lester Hayes definitely belongs in the HOF. When I look at a players career I ask myself if he was considered the best at his position or near the best in his time frame? Definitely a yes! 1980 Defensive Player of the Year and consider what he and Mike Haynes did to the Redskins in the Super Bowl. Hands down HOF!

Lester had a serious speech impediment and my take that this also plays a factor (besides Stickum) in him not being given his just reward. The guy was a shutdown DB for God's sakes! certain positions have a harder time getting into the HOF I’ve noticed. Playing in the secondary seems to be an uphill battle. I’ll give three examples: Steve Atwater, Joey Browner, Everson Walls. Yes, Atwater is in the HOF, but he got in on the upteenth ballot…you know any qb with 8 pro bowl selections is going in right away. Browner is not in inspite of 6 pro bowls and three all-pro selections…that’s a lock HOF for most other positions. Lastly, Everson Walls is not in…there’s only two men to lead the league in INTS three different seasons. Reed is one, Walls is the other. Walls also has the rookie record for INTS (11) post Nfl merger (of course that was the same year he was trailing Dwight Clark in that famous touchdown). He also had 7 ints in 1983…there was only 8 games played that year! Long story short, it’s harder for DBs and safeties to get in even if they have the same accolades (pro bowls, all pro, records specific to their position) as other positions.

We'll use simple logic for this argument, if stickum is going to be the basis for keeping Lester Hayes out then how many other NFL Hall of Famers should be removed for the usage of stickum? Stickum doesn't aid you in being a shutdown corner and it doesn't improve your preparation methods for the up-and-coming competition. I'll start off by saying Lester Hayes will make the hall of fame, but they will do him the same as Stabler and Branch and vote him in *posthumously*. With that being said, I saw Lester his entire career and he was easily one of the top Corners in the league that entire time. The entire "stickum" label is a smoke screen. How can the guy be blamed for using something that was sanctioned by the league and used league wide? Even after it was banned, his game never declined and when the Raiders got Haynes, the Raiders easily had the best CB tandem the NFL has ever seen. Him not being in the Hall is a joke. Deion Sanders was asked once who did he pattern his game after and I quote..."Lester Hayes". Nuff said!
