At 20:31 to the left of what you're pointing out is the one button Sully and FO Skiles forgot to press which I believe seals the aircraft up for a water landing? I'm sure you can explain it in greater detail. Break riding is one of my favorite things to do because it's one of the few activities where I can just stop and look around for a second. It's also one of the rare times a lowly RA gets to sit in the captains chair!

At around 28:00 when you discuss the possibility of an inadvertent gear up movement of the handle when on the ground, that could be an expensive repair and a write up on the pilot who did it. I think that happened not that long ago not sure if by a pilot or by a service AP technician. It would be nice if Boeing and Airbus disabled the gear handle altogether when not on a runway. These days it should be fairly easy with the ground sensors system for tracking the live position of the aircraft on the tarmacs. And yes, you've read my mind. Thanks
@WestCoastWheelmanКүн бұрын
I don't understand why the WOW sensors don't just lock it down.
@StigAviation16 сағат бұрын
The thing about this is that the weight on wheels sensors should prevent it from happening, but sometimes the hydraulic force is just too powerful and it will overcome the sensors. Especially at the nose gear, that’s why the nose gear is the most susceptible one for collapse.

Merry Christmas! Thank you so much for hacking the mish (mission) on Christmas! I'm very grateful for y'all who are out there when everyone else has the day off. ~12:00 I love the aesthetic of a big airfield at night! 22:19 I'm a bit surprised the fuel nozzle isn't attached at the fuselage near the fuel management panel like an SPR (Single Point Refuel). It seems to me like a monumental task to drag that hose up to the bottom side of the wing. The little tiny biz jets I fly have an SPR which is much easier than over-wing, but if we had to refuel over-wing, it's basically at human height. Do all airliners refuel like this or do some hook up at the panel?
@StigAviation15 сағат бұрын
That’s how most aircraft are, it’s a direct port fueling system straight into the wing. It would be very much more complicated if it was attached at the belly. And some aircraft fuel panels are right next to the receptacle as well. But some air buses are like this, where the fuel panel is at the belly and the Hose is attached to the wing
@amamdawhatever15 сағат бұрын
@@StigAviation So do they refuel the wings separately at the same time or is there a crossover valve and manifold?
@StigAviation15 сағат бұрын
@ they fuel it all at once. Feeds from the wing and gets distributed to center tank and the other wing via the manifold and fuel lines

Correct, the blankets run beneath the stringers and lay on the skin itself. I started off installing blankets in the forward cargo hold of the 737. I'm sure you are familiar with the plastic lining of the cargo hold, the stringers are underneath those liners. To put in the blankets, you have to balance on the stringers while trying not to rip the blankets into pieces. Those stringers have sharp edges, we have to wear gloves, bump caps (think baseball hats with a helmet liner) special shoes and soft knee pads. But I love it (I don't put in blankets anymore 😎)
@StigAviation17 сағат бұрын
I have installed those myself a few times, and it is not an easy job. Sometimes those clips and retainers are not as strong as they supposed to be
@renefuller92419 сағат бұрын
@@StigAviation Don't get me started... 😀. This is the first Flow Day, when the body comes off the train. Spirit puts those clips in. We have to rework them more often than not, but obviously after we put in the blankets the body goes through 9 more flow days (there are 10 in total). By the time the airplane rolls off the line many of those clips we reworked have been broken again and reworked again. The blankets go in one the 1st shift of the 1st day. After that come the electricians who put in miles of cabling. And so on... (I'm talking about the 737, not 787 solly) But it's amazing to see how an airplane comes together, I love doing what I do.

30:40 That’s interesting - in my old job as a ramp agent that wouldn’t be happening- nobody would have approached the aircraft if the beacon light was on. Didn’t happen often but if it did, we just stood outside the ERA and waited for as long as it took for the pilots to realise and switch it off 😅
@StigAviation15 сағат бұрын
Well if we did that we would’ve been waiting for a long time, because the pilots had long left the flight deck. 🤣 but don’t worry as soon as I see it, I run upstairs and turn it off

@StigAviation 🤣🤣 Wouldn't be able to leave the flight deck if there's no steps or jetbridge attached - unless they're really desperate 🤣🤣 This is in the UK BTW, ig it's just different approaches. Hey stig, at 20:05 you said that all those push buttons are irreversible actions. I always thought that the fire push button are reversible. I mean, discharging the squibs might make it a bit harder to relight the engines, but all those shut off valves should simply reopen, when resetting the fire push button. And then you'd have to relight the engine of course. At least that is what I remember from a twitch stream hosted by an a320 pilot :) did I maybe just get something wrong?
@StigAviation16 сағат бұрын
You are correct, if you just push the fire switches without discharging the bottle, you can reengage those but if you discharge the fire agent, there is no going back. You cannot restart the engine anymore.

WoW the Mercedes 300 SL is insane that car has gull wing doors and is in amazing condition. A Mercedes 300 SL in good condition fetches $1,350,000 but I would say that car has been restored and is in the high $2,000.000 to $4,000,000 range . Stig I hope you have a Happy New Year !! Thank You for all you do, I'll be thinking of you during this New Year !!! Later ......

Hi Stig, i love your vids. I was wondering what your rarest plane sighting was. Also late merry Christmas!

Stig: You did a video a year ago on the 777 MG can help steer the plane. Any chance you can get video of that happening?
@StigAviation16 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately I cannot get up close to that while it’s happening. Because the airplane is turning and in motion. But I do my best to explain how and why it works in my previous videos

do tilted gears make for smoother landings?. Like on the 787 and 777 they tilt when hanged but when they're about to be stored, they de-tilt?. What the point for tilt then?
@StigAviation17 сағат бұрын
The whole point of a tilted gear is for it to fit inside of the wheel well. That’s the primary purpose. And I would also assume that it does make for a soft landing

Hey stig, love your videeos some of my favorite to watch. I was just wondering if u could show/talk about the RME handle thing on the airbus cabin door.
@StigAviation16 сағат бұрын
What you’re looking at is a part of the lettering. RME, is part of ARMED , when you lower that handle it will spell armed, as in the door slide is armed.

Merry Christmas Stig 🎄🎉 Do the beacon lights must illuminate both at the same time or sequence; or it doesn't matter ? I love the B787 in the beginning of the video you have to bring at the hangar. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎊
@StigAviation16 сағат бұрын
The beacon lights are usually in sequence, they will both flash at the same time. The top and bottom one

Love the stealth Stig mask with the pilots. Hope you had a great week Stig. Was needing some Stig content today. Don’t know if you saw the NTSB report of the engine fatality a couple of months ago. Very sad. Stay outside the intake envelope please.
@StigAviation17 сағат бұрын
I did not see the NTSB report on that one, I’ll have to look it up

@ The APU was down so they left the #1 engine running at the gate. She didn’t catch it. You have mentioned that several times. Sad story. Head on a swivel Ive heard you say.

Nobody knows what I look like, unless you actually come and visit me at LAX, then I’ll come up and see you and you’ll see what I look like.
