Makes sense that it uses Win XP. The 300ER was launched in 2003 during the XP era. Updating an OS always introduces risks to a design, so what ever OS they used during design of the plane is what would have gone through certification. So, it will have to stay XP. You are absolutely right that XP is stable in terms of bug fixes. I reckon the new 777-8 and 9 will be the best plane ever built taking existing 777 tech to the next level. Can't wait to see that in the skies in 2025. Oh how I love looking at those GE9x engines ❤

I remember I was a lowly janitor at a corporate jet hanger at our local airport and me and the A&P mechanic and the security guard were the only ones on duty one day and the mechanic let me help him how to do a run test on a jet engine. He instructed me on how to safely approach the engine while running and I stood under the engine while it was running then climbed into the co-pilot seat while the mechanic taxied us out for a couple of full throttle runups. That was just a small engine on a Cessna Citation so I can imagine what a big RR,PW or GE engine is like. Coolest thing I ever did.
@StigAviation10 ай бұрын
I’m really glad you got to experience that, it’s good that the maintenance technician was mindful to teach you how to properly do it. As for the massive engines that I work with, you can imagine.
@Rwalt6110 ай бұрын
Yes I can imagine. Our engines were just little P&W turbine engines of I think around 5000 lb thrust class and I still felt the power standing around it. Oh and after I checked the fuel lines that he wanted me to look at than I climbed inside and sat in the co-pilot seat while the A&P taxied the plane out to the run up pad and did several full throttle runs and we could feel the tail of the plane rising up and we both had both feet on the brakes.

Hi Stig, I'm north of you in moses lake wa. And was able to watch the 777 doing flight maneuvers when in development. Was lucky enough to meet some of the engineers and was told that what I was seeing was the stress testing of the aircraft. The plane has no passenger seats and weights are used to get max weight and they have hundreds of meters to detect stress of the plane when they do maneuvers above what the plane would normally do it was amazing how the pilots would do everything just short of barrel rolls to test the airframe. Boeing uses moses lakes old Larson airforce B-1 bomber base to test aircraft. In fact all the grounded 737s were all flown here for retrofit. Nothing compared to the sight of a couple hundred planes parked in one area. Your video's sure show a side of aviation that most never see, what's interesting is you know more about the aircraft than the pilots. Enjoy your videos,very educational. Sorry about the novel length comment.😊
@StigAviation11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Bradley, I really appreciate that my friend. Indeed, looking at a whole fleet parked is a site to see. A pretty interesting fact for you, when they are doing those tests, to stress the aircraft, and doing those extreme maneuvers, all the safety features and computer systems are turned off, they are flying in pure direct mode. That’s how they are able to make those maneuvers, pretty cool, right !?
@bradley772311 ай бұрын
@@StigAviation I had no idea that all computer and safety was turned off. I have an absolutely even higher respect for those test pilots because I saw that test plane do things I've never seen before with a jumbo jet. Thank you for the information, truly adds to what I saw. 😀👍

Yes I know what it is like as I work in hospitality and the things I have had to sacrifice like weekends, summer holidays etc. Nice sound of the IAEV2500. Air NZ has A320's with these and A320/A321NEOS and our NEOs are due to have their engines looked at because of an issue the P&W engine. What is continuous ignition on a jet engine? In a jet engine, the term "continuous ignition" refers to both automatic and pilot selectable activation of the ignition system in circumstances other than during the start cycle. Also I collect anything do to with airlines, aircraft too. I have recently bought a window that belonged to a ex Ryanair 73-8 reg(EI-DAG) which was converted to a freighter and now flies for ASL Airlines in Belgium. Look forward to more videos. See you.

The air New Zealand are very beautiful indeed. I have a video of the all black one. That thing is gorgeous. And yes that is for continuous ignition. CON (Continuous Ignition) This is selected when there is heavy precipitation, severe turbulance and/or during takeoff & landing. When CON is selected, it basically tells the engines ignitors* to keep firing, that way in the event of an engine flameout, it can re-ignite. This is particularly useful in critical stages of flight like takeoff and landing, where if a birdstrike happens for example, the risk to engine failure becuase the ignitors aren’t lighting can be minimised.

Max is my good buddy, I’ll be seeing him most likely next year in February or March when I have to go to training in Tulsa. He’s a great guy.

I do actually have a GoPro, but it would be disrespectful to my colleagues and the people on the ramp. I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable filming everything. So I just do clips here and there. But I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos.

Con Means .. Continuous Ignition .. its used if the weather necessitates so that the system does not let the engine flame out by giving it a continuous ignition.

Great videos ! Is that a LV design on that Air Italia 777 ? Such a pretty bird. Dude I could watch your videos all day but I need to install some Brake Master cylinders on a Bonanza F33A

I think it was a LV style design, and that was a 350. Let me know if you need help with the brake, I got tools. 😅

Yeah, they have plenty of thoughts, they sit there and watch them and make fun of me 🤣🤣🤣 but in all seriousness, they are very supportive and very kind to me. They know that I do this to teach, and to show the joys of aviation and aircraft maintenance.

Amazing video as always! Loving the landscape video this time. I have a question, where does plane water come from? Is it like replenished every time the plane lands? Never thought about it until now. Can't wait to see the next video, Stig!
@StigAviation11 ай бұрын
Aircraft water comes from a tank. It’s refilled on every flight. I made a video on water sterilization. Check it out if you have time.

Con, stand for continuous. As in, it is continuously relighting the engine, to prevent flameout , or loss of thrust during bad weather or poor combustion conditions .

It’s really interesting to see all the checks done between flights, I had no idea so many checks were done before ETOPs flights. It’s no wonder aviation is so safe these days, so many overlapping layers of safety! Makes me feel very safe :)
@StigAviation9 ай бұрын
Not only overlapping layers of safety of the machine but also overlapping redundancy from human factors. It’s quite incredible.

I was run up/taxi qualified on the 727/767/&757 during my time at AA. I WAS ALSO IN ONE OF THE FIRST 777 GenFam classes at DFW. At that time AA only had 777-200s

I got all those ratings as well, but they’re useless now. We don’t have any more 727s we have no more 767 or 757, even my 330 rating is useless. But I still enjoy it because I still get access to some of the manuals and I love to read the systems. Gosh darn it. I love this job.

Been retired since 2016. Was not given much of a choice on retirement. AFW was shutdown and no DFW locations were offered to us.

The power of GE-90 is amazing. But imagine how strong the parking brake for the GE-90 plane. Mr. Stig, when you guys do a high power run. How do you keep the plane in place? Is the parking brake that strong? I doubt the parking block thing is heavy enough.
@StigAviation10 ай бұрын
The parking brakes are very strong, but you also have to take in consideration that there’s 12 brakes holding that massive aircraft steady on a high-power run. Sometimes we also use very special chalks that look like mini skate ramps in front of the wheels.
