Nice vid mate, put the nice bits from the super on the magnum or just keep the super I'd say. I've just found an 038 mag for $200 from a bloke in Dunsborough, picking it up tomorrow. Looks in real good nick but has a starting issue. Can't wait to get tinkering. I now have an 009, two MS361s, the 038 mag, an 044 10mm (the pride of the collection), MS460 mag and two farmertec kit saws: MS440 & MS660. It's a disease. Lady at work, her husband has a vintage saw collection nearing 200 saws! PS: looking forward to getting the pooch portrait you did for me mate!

I think you got a great deal on them being real Stihl saws and not clone saws. I would keep the magnum and fix it up it there isn't anything too seriously expensive wrong with it. My second choice would be the 67cc super that ran the best out of the three. I just bought the Neotec ns872 clone of the magnum, because I can't afford a real Stihl these days. I also bought the Farmatec G111 a clone of the Stihl Ms200t. I'm hoping both saws turn out to work close the what the Stihl versions can do. 🙄🤞 Cool video, subscribed. 😎👍

038 mag should pull 25 inch bar no worries in Jarrah. I've run that setup for awhile, however will be buying something bigger for next winter. And then the 038mag will go back to a 20 inch bar

I ran 25-28 skip chain in forestry doing all day cutting… pinion juniper got temps … 10 hr shifts

The magnum should do great with a 28inch bar when it's up and running good. I put a 25inch bar with a skip chain on my 361 and it cut great with no issues. My clone of the magnum I just bought is coming with the 24inch bar on it, though it says it will take a 28inch bar also. I'm short, but I don't want to have to bend over, so I will see if the 25inch will make the work and if not I I'll go to a 28inch. Lol

I just bought a 91 038 (brazilian made 72cc magnum) for 350 aud 😮 starts fine without choke on a cold wet 15 deg aussie summer day😊 just a couple of pulls. What were they thinking? Estate sale but . . ..

The Super is the one to beat there, I think the bar and chain where looking a bit dry on the last so that's never gonna help.. 🤔😂👍

I guessed $900 so you did well. Try running the mag with out the muffler, I had one that had the spark arrestor clogged and would not run properly except without the muffler, quick clean and was running like new.

Great old saws, Lee…. They are well known for their torque 👍🏼. I’ve got a MS381 clone and love it.

@@BushRats my clone goes absolutely great, Lee. I bought the NeoTec F380 (clone MS381) 72cc and the 24” bar with all the good stuff internally. I’ve just run it in and tuned a tad and I’m cutting through a meter thick with no problem.

The old man has probably cut 2000t of wood with his 038 mag from when he bought the saw new 15 years ago, always ran a 20inch bar and the only problem with it was the standard muffler fell apart, put a ported muffler on it and it will cut with the best, indestructible things they are

A ridiculously silly thing with the 038's.. The spring in the air filter can be weak and pull the choke closed at higher rpms, causing it to act like it's running rich, bog down, and will pop smoke out of the muffler. Had this exact issue with mine, which made me feel foolish after spending so much time fiddling with the carb and whatnot. Lol
