This saw was pre chain brake. I used to run one of these for years.

I have had other saws with no chain brake this was the first one that I have had that had this handguard setup. I love how the old saws sound.

Bought my 041 farm boss 1977, best saw I ever owned. For 30 years I cut 4-5 cords every fall. Biggest mistake was when I sold it and bought a new stihl farm boss. The old saw was much better and powerful to get the job done.

I have many saws this 041 for sure has good power. This is an earlier model with no chain brake a feature I have come to like on saws.

I have an 041 that my dad bought new. Mine had a linkage bar that hooked into hand guard and thru a slot in clutch cover. Like i said mine is missing but still runs great. O41 was retired when i got 461. It now sits on display with my dads 032

I think the newer ones of the 041 were outfitted with the different clutch cover and brake. The old ones had the hand guard like mine.

@@thedelcodave I think you are correct. I believe he bought it in 87. What did you give for your o41

I’m starting to collect old saws. I see a lot at garage sales. Chainsaws pretty prevalent here in Montana

I didn't get so lucky! Mine sat outside under an awning for 25 years. The tank was full of corrosion, Throttle and choke froze in time as well as the chain. And it does not have enough compression to run without dumping motor oil into the cylinder. It has 76 PSI compression.

@@RC-Heli835 bummer are you going to try to bring it back to life?

I do the same thing with setting aside projects for when its cold out. Take advantage of the nice weather whenever you can.

No chain brakes back then

This model was just before chain brakes started. Later models of this saw had the chain brake I believe.

that was a rotten log..lol it cutt through it was to easy iv cutt some rotten logs before! nice saw though..
@thedelcodave Жыл бұрын
It wasn't as rotten as you would think. I filed the rakers down pretty heavy and this saw runs strong. I cut a fresh tree down off camera and it cut really easy. Watch my Dolmar saw video it was the same log that saw had a harder time with it.

Don't know what you paid for the saw but i think you got yourself great saw, the older saws are way better built than the new ones just old cars

I had the saw out yesterday cutting firewood. Was cutting great until I lost a few more bolts. I have the saw apart again and I will loctite the bolts and I need to weld a tab back into the muffler. A literal shakedown run lol.

Ohh wow, its very torque old saw, looks like its build like a Tank!

It sure is. I love the sound of the old saws. I have a newer similar size ms390 that is much lighter but does not have the cool factor of the old saws.
