Cylinder did clean up and was able to slightly raise the exhaust port and save the cylinder. Dropped a new piston and rings in it, pressure and vac tested it, and she runs like a champ. (I had piston kit and base gasket on hand for my 044 build )

Do you do performance work for just people in your area? Or do you port a lot of saws
@richardflagg3084 Жыл бұрын
@@TDB372 I do port a lot of saws. Mostly local. I can't take on anymore work at this time as repair work is cutting into my fun time. That will change some time in the future.

@richardflagg3084 ok just figured I would ask

@PurpleNovember Honestly I think US Chrome does it, but it has to go through one of their dealers if I'm not mistaken. Pretty pricey too. It would have to be for a racing or NLA application to make sense.

Glad to read that you managed to save the cylinder and get her back running - nice old saw!!

Hey that’s awesome! Sounds like you were able to save the cylinder. I just picked up two 044’s that are both the 10mm red switch but one has a aftermarket no branded cylinder so I’m going to pick up a used slant fin to try to bring it back to original. Hopefully I’ll have two really nice restored work saws.

Ouch. Really is amazing how bad a 2 stroke can be and still run well. Glad to see you were able to save it👍🏻

I have a early 044 10mm red lever non decomp KS. I love that saw

Lucky man. They are legendary saws.

@richardflagg3084 Only thing not original is the piston and rings. Guy I got it from cooked it with cheap oil and I was lucky able to save the cylinder. Yeah they're definitely one of my favorites.

Have the exact same saw in all original condition. I picked it up at a pawn shop along with a 460 magnum for $400.

Glad you saved it. Seems it had a multitude of issues due to fuel/water mix was a bit off. 😂

Definitely out of spec! Dunno how you get that much water in your gas can.......

Have you ever seen a slant fin 10mm saw come from the factory in a 12mm case? I have what I believe to be a 1993 or 94 slant fin that has a 12mm case but it has 10mm crank, piston, cylinder for sure upon teardown.

Thats a nice looking ole slant fin 44. Whats up with that sweet looking 288xp on the shelf?

When I go wide open throttle on my 272 it fourstrokes just like it should but after a second it starts cleaning up and then revs higher until I let go of the throttle because I'm afraid it'll blow up. To me this sounds like a vacuum leak that causes a lean condition but that mfr DOES NOT LEAK! I have pressure/vac tested it to some crazy values and its airtight. This is tested with a 266 and a 272 carb. What on earth could cause this!?!? The muffler is modded

Has a Stihl cylinder ever been made to run on a Husky, or vice versa? Any type of “interbreeding”? I’d like to think of it as a valid question. 🤯
