I think that your "481" would be surprising on the piece of fir Mr. Speed. I was back at it here a few weeks ago. I didn't have the time to run my Torquer 461, which I fully regret. I know its been awhile, but, thanks for stopping by.

skySRP hi. I owned several 084s and a 3120 in the 80's. For the most part, all we used in the old growth on the coast. A 42 was the shorty bar. Only have a few pictures from that time. Thanks for watching.

skiSrp PRE hi. I would consider myself in the middle of the pack for both size of old growth cut and expedient-ness. I just was lucky enough to be in a good place at the right time to get a hold of some pretty good sized trees and some really interesting ground. Thanks for watching.

Do the modifications reduce the life of the saw or how come the manufactures do the mods as standard ? I recently purchased a 3 yr old 461 .thats why i watch your vids . Learning a lot from you . Thanks
@hotsaws1015 жыл бұрын
Liam hi. Longevity, to a large degree from my perspective anyway, is operator related. Specifically, the maintenance habits, the mix oil choice, condition of the chain/s, and proper jetting for the localé and especially the chains. A little bit of my experience with psycho level saws is a follows: 6.5 to 7 million board feet cut over a 7 year time span with one of my 390s - all original, down to the plastics. Over a five year period (5+ million), I wore out four 372 bottom ends with a big bore topend I made myself in '01. Both were what I would call the standard psycho zipkit of today. Heavily modified, reshaped combustion chambers, etc., etc. Some would suggest that a modded saw has longevity issues. I don't necessarily agree that a zipped saw/s doesn't last as long. They have emission and noise constraints. Thanks for watching and hope your New Years is good.

Wish I had a context to compare fir to dry oak, hickory or locust. Cut a dead mulberry yesterday might be the hardest wood I ever cut. Except for a dogwood! But hey usually don't make 40" dbh
@hotsaws1016 жыл бұрын
woddy912a hi. Fir, generally, is far less dense than oak or locust. But, as with all things, it depends on a few factors. Where it is growing on the hill will make a difference. The elevation a tree is growing makes a huge difference out on the west coast. 500' elevation wood of the same species cuts nothing like it's counter part growing at 4, 5, 6 7 , up to 9K. Take white fir. At sea level it melts. At 5k with the same chain, it is rattling the fillings out "ur" head....... Thanks for watching.

What kind of rpm range is that saw in the wood
@hotsaws1016 жыл бұрын
Tim hi. I never checked. I built this saw to pull hard down low and wield a long bar with authority. This is the short bar that he has. My guess on the rpms is ~ 12, 12.5 while cutting based on the sound of the engine. Thanks for watching.

Seems like cut 2 was a few sec quicker thru the wood - saw throws a nice roost !!!... I see a lot of these “wildwood” competitor builds that cut fast for 30seconds and then “heat sink” and lose about 15-20% power ... STIHL have 7:59:30 to go to finish the day !!!! THIS CAT wants a saw that cuts and performs ALL-DAY - and Hotsaws101 delivers ! Don’t want a quick Johnny for the camera that loses “steam” after 3 cuts like some other low-budget “port-work” !

Eric hi. Well, I'm not in England or Ireland. There isn't a steady diet of large trees over there and haven't been for centuries. So, it stands to reason that the "protocol" on this side of the pond is different. Plus, it is still not regulated into submission in a few areas in the PNW like what you have to deal with. Additionally, you have "trainers" that never spent multiple decades on the end on a pistol grip in the bottom of some deep dark hole, day after day, year after year. Experience. It will lumenate the nuance. Thanks for watching.

You know man it would cool ,if you could have 2 piece head, hell then your imagination is limit at that point different shape, different design what ever you cast
@Fabzacres6 жыл бұрын
Mike West - certainly within capability to do a 2-pc head ... you could custom-design different “domes” in the head that provided different characteristics ie torque ; woods perhaps even hi pro - race ... one saw , 2 or 3 machined aluminum heads and you’ve got the bases covered ... “wood” be some extensive R/D but once dialed in for each head /saw/tune you’d have a saw that truly could do it all !
