You're right, people here in Europe ask me all the time here why i have long bars on nearly all my saws. I climb with them too in bigger trees. My 357XP without base gasket and an empty can muffler with an 28" and wrap handlebar is my favorite little saw for allround work here. Love your channel! All the best from Herwijnen, the Netherlands

I have a 362c-m that I run a 36” bar to freehand mill lumber. It is the best combination I have found. I have the oiler cranked up full, use full house chain ground at 0 degrees. You only use the first foot of the bar and the length is perfect for straight cuts and no side gouging. The light weight lets me work longer, I’m old. You get less kickback with a long bar. I use the 25” bar for bucking. I mill a couple thousand board ft a year and the saw never gets hot and the bar is never more than warm to the touch. Almost no rackers and the shavings are large but not long enough to clog up the saw. Throw them 20’ behind me. No hardwood here.

Howdy mr.tinman,yes long bar we use for limbing,can run 36" bar on ms 290 stihl,bump the rim to 8 tooth and put .325 speed chain 3/8 ,that 58 cc swa will pull it all day limben not bucken or cutten!! And that's why the call it the farm boss!!! Good.stuff,a stihl bar dresses up a husky ready for the ball!!! All good stuff!! Igot my 390 husky for some bucken but I love the 0 84 .404 for anything big the 120 cc class is a power monster!!! Pleasure!! 😅Sierra.John

I do enjoy the reach of a 28-32" bar but don't currently have any light ones. Once I get a couple lightweight 28"+ bars, doubt I'll go back to shorter ones for 60+cc saws! Great to hear the large Stihl pattern can be adapted to even the small mount Huskys👍🏻

Thats the classic "old man" setup where i grew up in the big trees in Oregon. 90% of the time its so they dont piss of their bad back, but 10% of the time theres a really sketchy tree that needs dropped so you gotta get the old timer to do it, so they need a longer bar for that, hah.

I’m been away for a while, just now getting a chance to get caught up on your videos. The new intro is killer. Great work Tin Man. The channel keeps getting better and better!!

There is a major risk of clutch and seal issues running longer bars on small frame saws. A 24 inch is max on 50cc range saws. It is fun to push limits on what a saw can do.

I’m a big guy too with the same dad bod like you, long torso not super long legs. The idea of being able to stand up and buck is appealing. I’m thinking of eventually adding a 60cc saw with a 28” bar on it. Keeping a nice sharp chain and it should be fine. I don’t have really big wood to cut, vast majority is firewood for me. Making life a bit easier is always good….

Interesting video tinman that’s funny that small saw can pull that big bar just goes to show how well built saws are

I absolutely love my 357xp. Though I only run an 18" bar. Its will surprise a guy how well these smaller saws will cut. In stuff 8" or smaller it will out cut my 371xp which is also a great saw in its own right. I have had Stihl, Shindaiwa, Dolmar and Homelite and the Husky's have always just felt right for me. Not knocking the others all good machines but Husqvarna has done everything I ask it to do with ease.

Not looking to pick on you but I just want to correct what you said is a Stihl "large mount bar" actually the bar your using is the Stihl "standard mount bar" Stihl uses three sizes in their line of bars. 3005 is their "small mount bar" open tail bars, anything smaller than and including an MS250 right down to the top handle saw's use this bar mount size. 3003 is their "standard mount" like what you have is used on anything from an 026/MS261 up to an 066/MS661 use this bar mount size. Then finally the 3002 is their "large mount bar" that's only used on the big bore saw's 084 088 MS880 MS881 that's it in a nut shell that's their sizing system. Lot's of misinformation out there just thought someone might find this info helpful. One last thing "bar mount size" means the bar stud/bolt size on the saw or size of the slot in the bar for those not in the know but I think you already mentioned that. Husqvarna's new bar's they've come out with in the last year or so, many now have the heavy duty 6 rivet nose so pretty much on par with Stihl's 6 rivet bar's some will disagree but they have gotten a lot better in quality.

Do you think a 555 would run this bar? Although now that I've had it for 5 years and it's still in pretty good shape, I'm thinking of just not beating it up.

I threw a 30" oregon(heavy) bar on my MS361 a year or so ago and did some cuts in red oak. I was just curious and it was just a throw a video together and see how it would handle it, but it ended up being a bit dull from a previous job that bar/chain was on felling a big elm. Now you got me curious again to throw that 30" on the 361 again with my best file job and just see what it can do in a bit softer wood. I still don't think it will be as stout as that 57cc Husky!! The sound of that husky with the bar buried surprised me how well it revved thru that cut.

Have you been able to find any light 30’s, because I haven’t. I even contacted Canon about customizing 1 for me, but no dice.

I ported a 350 awhile back, no machining, well i accidentally bought a ⅜ small mount bar so now my mighty 350 is running a 24" ⅜ full comp, runs it real good in wood thats 10' and under, its mainly for limbing so should b ok

I get the stand up and buck concept, just can't wrap my head around sharpening all those teeth. At most I would consider going to a 24" bar. Nothing bigger than that for this guys saws. But I'm just a fire wood cutter 😂... TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
@ToddAdams12346 ай бұрын
My issue was the enormous heat that was being generated by my 372. It handles anything from 16 up to 30 (yes 30) but even with careful tuning it doesn’t pull a 32 ver well. That 30 is easy to confuse with a 28 for just how well it pulls, but I’ve never been able to find a lightweight version of 30”. 😢It’s a bummer for certain.

Great video Tinman. I have a very well used 357xp, little beat up when I got it but it is my go to saw. I was looking at the Echo CS620pw as my next saw, cost is a factor as well as the fact that I do not cut the amount of wood I used to, less than 3 cords a year at this point. What are your thoughts?
@ryanfriars5456 ай бұрын
My opinion, especially if cost is a factor is buy a good used husky. I’ve picked up many great saws for 100-200. Spend a bit more, and you’re likely to find something thats in great condition.

For my height a 24" bar is about as short as I can stand. My lower back can't tolerate the short bars. 5 minutes and I'm feeling it.

@ryanfriars5456 ай бұрын
You run that saw like that for long, or in larger wood, you’ll cook it. There’s a lot of strain on that bearing to keep that chain taught. Also, drilling additional holes for an oiler can cause you to lose oil, especially when drilled before the original oil port. If you want to do a good comparison video, put a .325 chain on there with a 18-20” bar, and compare it to that setup. See how much power you lose.

I run a 32” bar with full comp chain on my 272xp and it will cut through a 30” red oak like it’s not even trying (using the new Husqvarna X Cut chains- rind files by hand. ) I don’t run it all the time - I have a 20” bar also …. But I’m looking hard at a 28” bar for all the reasons Tinman said … I’m old and my back is shot 😂
@prestonfreeman84436 ай бұрын
Idk. That husky outside clutch is just not right. It's kinda stupid actually. That's the only why I don't like husky except the 371 XP. But I rather use STIHL
@kennethlittle8676 ай бұрын
Why not just put a good quality Husqvarna bar on it Stihl bars are not the be all and end all of bars ! Waist of time and money in my opinion 🤷 sorry.
@sandsock6 ай бұрын
Tsumara is a great bar. Lighter than husky and Stihl. Husky rails maybe harder than Stihl. With the amount of wood I've cut with my tsumara, I would of worn out 2 Stihl bar tips.
@brucenicov12246 ай бұрын
Because he can use Stihl bars on ALL his saws, not just his Huskys. Bars aren’t cheap….
