Great video and conclusion, I’ve noticed exactly what you’re talking about differences in tune to cut. It’s difficult to keep it adjusted from one day to the next for optimal performance vs the M-Tronic auto turning between days or cuts.

The problem I have with the m-tronix saw is the cost to replace the ignition module, $175. The saw I have, a MS261C-M has run 5 years and the module failed. Is it less expense in the long run to convert it to a standard carb and ignition? There are a lot of after market parts available. Or maybe buying a Husqvarna saw and sell the Stihl for parts.

I bought the MS - 261 pro saw less the m - tonic. Glad Sthil is still offering them with or without the m- tronic. Like the carburetor model myself.

Interesting. I bought a non M Tronic 462 a few months ago. Dealer said that was all he could get due to the chip shortage. I like simplicity but was thinking I should convert to electronic to always have the optimum tune without any fiddling. Maybe I should rethink that.

Have a parts # list? Mines doing just fine now but few years down the road standard carb might be the way to go!! I cut firewood not a professional logger so Mines not getting ran daily which worries me on m tronic longevity.

The M tronics are prone to fail in very dry dusty conditions such as a wildland fire application the air filters stop up way to fast

What does dust have to do with m-tronic working? Nothing. It's just a simple sealed solenoid instead of some adjusting screw. How often do your solenoid adjusted fuel injector in your car fail due to the solenoid going bad? Never.

The carburetor needs to be adjusted not for every tree, but for any weather changes!

Look guys you proved what I have suspected for a while and that you get absolutely no gain from it. Its main purpose is too make it impossible to change your carburetor settings and make guys have to bring your saw in for expensive diagnostics because you cannot figure out what’s wrong with it. I think your wrong saying its better to use m tronic because different trees or limbing requires different carb settings, if it cut thru those blocks better then it will do everything better. All my m tronic saws stall when starting just as i saw yours do, thats not a great feature!

@davido6915 hey same issue there ! Starts easily with starter on but when I accelerate it stalls. I pump the primer bulb again and see it's empty. This happens a few times then it's all good. Any way to fix it ?

I’m in the states and managed to get my hands on a standard model🤙🏼 the problem I’m running into is the stock carb adjustment only gives me less than a full turn. Did you gjys figure a solution to get past the stock adjustment stops?

One of Mtronic's biggest failings is a lack of qualified repair people and those who are forced to shotfun a repair instead of diagnostics that point to the failed component. I suspect the non Mtronics will be running for years after the Mtronic saw is dead and buried from lack of parts or from excessive cost to repair.

If there’s an M that means M-Tronic. If there’s no M then it’s just a regular carb.

It’s not so much for that one second, but rather the reliable carb setup over the fail prone M-tronic. I’m not all about fixing what’s not broken so to speak, but I am in big favor of simplifying a given setup to ensure years of reliability.

@@Vickvineager People complain about the M-tronic, while in reality, it is extremely rare for that feature to go bad on a saw. In fact Stihl dealers have to do more carb work and rebuilds on regular carbs than the electronic ones, on saws the same age. Only occasionally does one not work properly, and the majority of people who talk crap about it are hardcore old-schoolers who don't like it because it's 'computerized' and 'fail-prone' lol

@@joshuamusser8893 , I have a 661 c with Mtronic... Ignition coil is busterd. Saw didn't run for 30 hours. Contacted shop, ignition coil not valid for waranty... The best thing is they not sell the mtronic version in my country, no parts available and I can't fix my saw...WTF?? I have to order igniton coil from ebay, but dont know if will fit...Have a 026 from 2002 and works without any issues...

@@lukasebel3994 The real advantage is perfect tune at all times, so more torque and cut speed. Also, there's nothing complicated about this simple solenoid setup, it's still a regular carb in an m-tronic.

@@em4703 Yeah, perfect tune at all times until the firmware misreads or miscalculates conditions and you lean out. Now you own the upper. Mtronics is fine in concept but a chainsaw is an unforgiving environment for the electronics and wiring.

32:1 only hahahahahahahaha what a waste. 50:1 thats what Stihl recommends you guys running all that oil in the gas thinking you are adding protection kills me. You are doing nothing but letting less gas through the carb. fuel cools and makes power not oil!!
