I'm from Australia and we've had the 500i's for about 10 months now. We have one at work and I have one in my own personal fleet. One is stock except for a West Coast saw barkbox the other was actually the first ported/muffler modded 500i in Australia! After the port job its been the go to saw for felling and blocking down trunks when climbing. Pulls on par with a stock 66 yet weighs and feels like a 46. Balances super nice and pulls hard with a 25' light bar and full comp semi chisel chain. Even our aussie hardwoods dont slow the animal down. Enjoy the saw, Climb high and climb safe man!

I've had my 500i for a little over 6 weeks now. I love it. It keeps getting better all the time. I run an eight tooth sprocket on it with a 25 in. bar and full house chain. More than enough power. I use a 32 in. bar with a full skip square ground chain too. She rips. Not sure how much longer I can wait to tear it apart and start modding. As of now I don't plan on picking up my 660 again for a long time.
@vincentmunoz79573 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering how it stacks up against the 660 ,what's your thoughts should I buy a 660 cause say the 500i power is out of reach as far as power and just go with 660 or is it pretty close and the 550i is right there with it
@morey777773 жыл бұрын
@@vincentmunoz7957 I would buy the 500i. Comparable power but the 500i is much lighter and more user friendly. With a few simple mods it has more power too. If you will be using it every day buy the 500i. If it is just for every once in a while the 660 is a great saw too.

Here is some beta. I work in Colorado at 7000 to 12000 feet and the other months in Michigan (close to sea level)The 500i does not need adjustment due to elevational change like my other saws which is what the fuel injection is supposed to do...I had my doubts though! That is really advantageous. It revs up great and has good torque for the weight. Thanks for sharing your tests...hope your lungs are holding up!
@1d1hamby3 жыл бұрын
How much does the saw pick up after the break in? Most saws at sea level seem to pick up around 10% for me.

Not true. Cosmoline works for firearms. Not so good for engines. So if you have more engines than you can run in a lifetime, it's pointless. 50 saws is plenty, I don't care WHO you are. Guns are different, since they can be passed down indefinitely.

Hi August, thanks for your explanation regarding the erosion. We use avocado trees here on steep/ loose escarpments to hold the soil together. Avocado trees like a lot of water +/- 50 litres a week, but the soils needs to drain well, they don't like to "sit" in water, similar to grape vines. They have one main root and provided that this can go deep without restrictions, it will build a good root infrastructure that holds soil together well and prevents erosion of both soil and loose, shale rock.

I just got my 500i today! I love it. Kinda feel bad because I'm just a plumber, not professional tree guy, but cut a crap ton of firewood. But after I got it today, my dealer said that they coukd not order anymore 500i's. They were only allowed two of them per deal. But anyways, so far I have only gotten one tank through. So still alot of break in ahead of me, but I would have to disagree on the power, definatly more power than my brother in laws 462, i woukd say its closer to my buddies 661

It was not a boring explanation. Unless one is involved in projects like that it is difficult to get your head round the multiple issues surrounding the arguments for the life and death of such trees. I know a couple of guys with the 500 and they say that the saws get even better with time as the brain learns the work they are routinely used for. Thanks for another great video. This was a great video. I've actually owned a 500i for a couple of months now and I've been nothing but impressed. I actually leave a 36-inch bar on it most of the time and it is impressive how well it pulls all of that chain. The low-end torque is definitely it's strongest suit and great fuel consumption.
@barrybri3 жыл бұрын
I was wondering about fuel consumption. I put a 56mm 98.5cc cylinder on my MS660 and the main thing that I noticed was it appeared to use up the fuel tank about 30% faster than the standard 92cc.
@corpsiecorpsie_the_original3 жыл бұрын
How well does the oiler keep up? Also, which 36" bar do you run and would you recommend it?
@RoodFeller3 жыл бұрын
I just have a standard Stihl bar with a full skip tooth Stihl chain. At some point I definitely want to get a lightweight bar for it. It doesn't seem to have any problem with the 36 in. I actually sold my 880 as a result.
@corpsiecorpsie_the_original3 жыл бұрын
@@RoodFeller - I decided to go with what you're running. I won't use it frequently enough to justify getting anything expensive and lightweight.
