Worked perfectly on my old fs80av! thanks for such a great video. I was also able to order a generic air filter and choke housing off ebay to suit.

If you also want to update your trimmer to a tap head, i recently found that somebody sells an adapter so current tap head fits. Search for "FS80 trimmer tap head adapter" on e bay.

Hi, do you know what year is the FS80 electronic manufactured and what fuel mix ratio should I use, considering new 2-stroke oils now available.

What is the problem with the original carburetor later if you have an ultrasonic cleaner

Thank you for the video. I have the holes in the gasket lined up between the block and carb, it will run for a bit and stop. I have a new Echo fuel cap on the tank so that leads me to the fuel lines, the line with the filter is laying in the gas. How far in does the other one need to be and how did you close off the old hole for the fuel line?
@MrFixIt-le7tl5 жыл бұрын
When it stops, press the primer. Is it firm like it was when you were priming to start or soft and it gets more firm as you prime it a few more times? If "soft and gets more firm as you prime it" then the gasket between the carb and engine block does not line up so the pressure in the tank that built up when you primed it, drops as the gas escapes the tank and burns. For the original rubber seal where the original fuel line went into the tank, i took 2 1.25" fender washers, piece of gasket, bolt and nut, and Goop glue. use the bolt to hold the washer which holds the gasket inside the tank. Put the goop glue inside so gas doesnt leak out between the bolt\washer\gasket. Put the other fender washer outside and tighten the nut on the outside to hold the seal. cut off the extra bolt thread and Viola!! The original rubber seal leaks and using goop, it still breaks loose and doesn't hold pressure. Want to see this hack in another video on this???

How difficult was this to do. I have one I thought about doing the same thing. What gasket material??
@MrFixIt-le7tl7 жыл бұрын
It should be pretty easy- making the video took WAY longer... You only need a drill to drill the new hole for the hose. The rest is just supplies.I just got this trimmer($10!!) - perfect guinie pig to use to make the video and it took me 15 min (after getting the screws- the rest I already had) to do this.Look at auto supply stores(maybe walmart has it) for the gasket - get the cork type. The other type sold is thin as paper. I figure if there are imperfections in the mating surfaces, the cork being spongy would fill low spots better.

The throttle cable is connected to the internal of the old carburetor. I have no idea how to remove it separately. Do I have to replace this also to change to a new carburetor or can I somehow disconnect it and use it for the new carburetor? Thanks for the video.
@MrFixIt-le7tl6 жыл бұрын
When u unscrew the "cap" that the cable goes in to, you have a spring pushing the cylinder piece down. Compress that spring and the end of the cable with the "ball???" will pop out. Follow the vertical slot cut in the cylinder- that is where the cable runs and hooks.

Mr. Fix It Thanks. I got it re-routed. I've reworked the unit just like you did and it started and ran for a few seconds then stopped. Can get it started for only a few seconds then dies. There is gas in the bulb yet it acts like it is deficient of fuel. Any ideas of where to go from here.
@MrFixIt-le7tl6 жыл бұрын
Start it up with a filter on it. some of mine run lean without the filter on. Press the primer 2x and make note of how firm it is. Now start it. When it dies prime it again. Is it still firm as when u first primed it? If No, gasket is leaking- something is not lined up. redo that. You say it runs for a few seconds, i would bet this is your problem as it runs burning fuel and the pump not working (leaking gasket), the fuel pressure drops thus dies in a few seconds. Post your findings.

@@MrFixIt-le7tl Thanks for your help. I pulled the starter so many times I got a blister. Let it sit overnight and the next day after about 6-8 pulls it started and now it runs like it was new. Have tried it again and it starts easily now. I didn't change anything internally so none of that was an issue. I can't explain why it was reluctant to start but suspect a fuel issue. Could I have flooded it? But due to your video I have made a worthless trimmer into one that runs good-as-new. Many thanks!!!

@@joetraxel7822 When priming (especially first time in the spring) I prime it until fuel squirts into the primer then i push 1 more time for good measure. Usually it then takes 2 pulls to sputter and die becuase im not quick enough to open the choke. Open then it fires up and occassionally i need to feather the choke but safe to say Im in business. You say you got fuel in the priimer so yeah - probably flooded it. No worries. If do it again, remove the plug to see - if dry = lean, if pretty wet=flooded. From personal experience, when i got my first fs80(along with a fs65), i had many blisters eventually understanding how these work and eventually finding this setup that has worked for me since '99. As Clinton said it best "I feel your pain."

One more thing , i was looking at one carb on ebay to buy it and then i questioned myself is the new carb working the same way as the old one because there are two connectors one for the fuel line and the other an overflow like on the old tk ? Because im normally working with chainsaws and the carb is getting the pressure for the membrane a bit different. Thx

Are u asking if u need the second hose to the tank? Adding this did a lot for me - i can trim upside down\on side\etc. Without it like on my FS65, the engine drops when I tilt it to edge sidewalks before I upgraded it to 2 hose carb. Plus the carb 2nd port either needs to be connected to a 2nd hose or plugged if u don't want to drill. Is that what u r asking???

The choke is on the air filter housing. I left it off in the video as i took pics as i did the repair. You can use the housing off Echo or Stihl products - both fit.

@@teammouse I have a few of these. For the most part, it stays the same. Where they differ is the solid state ignition is bigger than the points ignition coil. Multiple Flywheel part numbers work with either ignition- points of SS., etc. or else it is the same carb setup. I have 2 that have the FS80 sticker on the back - no AVE. the AVE (which is the one i used in the video) i believe the E is the electronic ignition.

How did you attach the throttle cable for this?

I took some scrap metal to make a bracket to hold the end of the cable - See pic. www.flickr.com/photos/9242898@N02/47416328692/in/photolist-2ff25yu
