I was having problems with my 180 c that fit this description so I decided to watch this. When the video started I immediately thought "what's this kid going to show me that I don't already know?" Who would have thought to even look at the muffler screen? The boy nailed it! Before watching the video I disassembled and completely cleaned and blew out the carburetor, dumped the gas and put in fresh mix, and new spark plug. Still ran like crap. I thought to myself "it's got air fuel and spark, and it runs, what the hell's the problem?" Well, if the exhaust can't get out it doesn't matter what you put in it!🤣 It turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks! Good work my man! I hope this video has helped many others!

All you guys suggesting leaving the spark arrestor screen out realize that if you're a repair shop and you leave it out and the customer takes the saw and starts a fire you are liable and this is against federal law. You could be fined and imprisoned. This young man has gave some great advice in his video and in the comments section. Probably knows more than you may realize? I'm an EETC 2stroke certified tech if that matters. Great job young man!!! Stay with it! ✌

Australian models generally follow the trends, and all my saws have the spark arrestor screen. I use a butane gas torch to clean them occasionally, I also don't rush into using the saw - I let them warm up for a few minutes on idle, that gets the fuel flowing through the fuel system and gets the oil lubricating the chain/bar. In theory if fuel is good, and the saw can breathe it should run. And keep it clean. 😎

Had same problem with mine. Carb ran too rich no matter what...fouled plug and screen every tankful. Swapped out carb to an adjustable one (Walbro WT-215) drilled a few holes in the cover for access to high and low screws... runs great now. Oh yeah.. also opened up the exhaust... more power...sounds great. Nice light and good power for the size.

Thank you young man unfortunately I had already clean my screen and all the other obvious. Even using high octane ethanol free fuel. I fear it's the carburetor since there is no adjustment for the mixture which is asinine. Mixture changes with altitude due to atmospheric density. Just glad I bought it in an auction. LOL. Curious if there is a way to tweak mixture even without a mixture screw. It bogs and stalls even without a load.

@@anthonylehner3643 thanks, mine is a 170 I did find that screw I thought it was for idle speed I checked eBay I can actually get a new non-branded carburetor with tune-up kit for $11 at that price I ordered one. LOL That gives me an extra filter, plug, oil pump, and lines also. I kind of think somebody was running ethanol fuel. And it has a bad diaphragm or something. With that said there's not even any paint or off the bar. Things went cheap at that auction chainsaw was only $63. I even got a almost new 60" inch brush hog for $185. Appreciate the response, take care stay safe.

My 181 has the same fault, the dealer cleaned the carburretor but still the same. I took it back twice and they said it was running normally but it was not. I took it back a few weeks ago and they said the carburretor was faulty and it was my fault because I hadn't used it. I said how can I use it if it will not start and walked out. If the gas is more than a month old dump it and go get some new stuff. If that doesn't do it, assuming you've already checked spark plug and air filter, you will want to do a full carb disassembly cleaning and blow out with compressed air if it has been sitting for over a year with bad gas in it. I always empty the gas tanks on all my small engines and run them completely out of gas when I'm putting them away for the winter.

Google still 170 carb mods. There is a carb you can mod to bolt right up with a low idle and high run adjustment. Did it to mine runs better then new.

On the 170 and 180 models, there's only one carburetor screw... The LA. That's for your idle throttle speed. There are literally no other screws on these self-adjusting carburetors. You need to rebuild or buy a new one.

ego19893 Amen, brother! I took a small engine repair class and one of the first things the instructor told us was let the engine warm up for at least a minute before revving it up. I see sooooo many people doing this and I make sure to tell them.... Some listen and some don't 😞

Actually a two stroke is better to give a little rpm but I agree that giving it full throttle isnt good at the start I have rebuilt saws and that's not the main killer but could be

@@stevek4546 yeah a four-stroke you need the oil to be warm in order to lubricate properly two strokes have the oil mix in it. I never seen professional loggers waste time warming anything up and their saws are their livelihood.

Be careful revving up machine straight away as could wreck engine, let it tick over first to warm it up then use 👍🏼

When you first start it, it's designed to go to do a high rev until you give it a quick throttle squeeze. You're supposed to do that squeeze within a few seconds to avoid ruining the clutch.
@darkshaman7087
@darkshaman7087 Жыл бұрын
@@karlrovey you should let chainsaw run for about 5 minutes before use to warm up as the piston as it will expand and heats up quicker than the cylinder and if revving the engine up will cause it to rub and score the cylinder.

I know it’s what they teach but that is the worst way of starting a saw! When the day comes (and it will!) that the starter jams, you are yanking the rear handle right into your balls.
