I bought my ms250 for $300. Your offer was very generous. Fortunately you have the ability to rebuild it for him. Being that the saw is well used , I think that's more than fair. If it was my saw and you were my friend , I'd probably pay for the parts if you'd do the labor. I'd get back a good as new saw for dirt cheap and you'd only be out time for breaking a tired chainsaw. Good video as always 👍

I did a similar job with my Stihl (seals), but first I had to watch several videos (mostly Donyboy73) over and over, and I went really slow. Now that I know all the tricks, it was great watching how you intuitively found your way through. Impressive! p.s. flushed with success, I disassembled my Stihl KM55 trimmer, but got totally lost in terms of reassembly!

I have done this to two of these saws and If take an extra few minutes to remove the clutch and flywheel the entire block will come out from the plastic housing and it will be much easier replace the cylinder. The seals can be replaced at the same time. They should be replaced as they can contribute to a lean running engine.

Just wait until you try to install that right front grommet back in the rear handle. That sucker is just like the 029/290, a pita. I found it easier to re-attach the rear handle right front grommet, first, then rotate the rear handle, downward, and then pull the boot through. It usually tries my patience and I have done it lots of times. I pull intake boots into the rear handle with a piece of string. Once you get the boot in and the kill wires through, just screw the rear handle back to the cases and the rest is pretty easy.

You should switch to a different sealer. You put two different sealants on the same joint. Those sealers are different composition that dry differently and adhere to surfaces differently. Motor Seal by permatex is made for direct contact with fuel and is a adhesive sealer.

I always put the intake side circlip on, first, to make sure it is seated correctly. If the intake side circlip comes out it will trash the cylinder and piston. If the exhaust come out it will end up in the muffler. I use Playtex Moto Seal on clamshells and TB 1184 or Dirko on pro saws.

I ran my 250 out of gas also. It ran through about a half tank after that before it died and wouldn't restart. The next day it was fine though. I did it again months later and same thing, it died halfway through the next tank and wouldn't restart until the following day. Saw seems fine but I definitely gotta be more careful.

Most 2-stroke equipment failures are from air leaks. Obviously, more air, less fuel leans it out, and scores piston, rings, cylinder. First, pull muffler and look at the dang piston. Do a compression test. Do a leak down test with a Mighty Vac. What about the impulse line, crank seals, fuel lines, etc.? I've used Meteor (Italian) pistons, rings, cylinders, etc. with good results. Go online and read about them. OEM Still parts for rebuilds are often cost prohibited. Farm tech makes some cheap stuff. You said $40 bucks for MS250 top end rebuild kit. Man that us cheap! Scary cheap. Chainsaws are very finicky to work on, and to keep running right. Highest weight to power ratio of any piece of outdoor power equipment. Never force stuff when removing and installing parts. It all fits, just gotta be patient and persistent. Oil everything up nice on rebuild with 2-stroke oil as you go. Use compressed air ONLY to clean a chainsaw, and carb cleaner. Run it after the rebuild just like you normally do. Some people like to baby it, and some don't. Run 50:1 good synthetic Stihl premix. That means right after you rebuild it. Not richer because it is dress top end. If no air leaks are present, no problems. This saw failed because it was going to fail. Why? Don't know because never got definitive leak down test, or look at piston and jug. 4 cords of wood per year is not much. Never run a saw without the bar on, and drop start it like a man. Merry Christmas! Enjoy your channel.

3 or 4 cords is a lot ? Try 10 to 15 cords/year AND, clean the damn thing after EVERY use. Saw dust may have clogged the cooling fins thus, overheating. I'm no small engine mechanic BUT, comon sense prevail.

@TheKrayusKorianis
@TheKrayusKorianis 3 жыл бұрын
@@patthesoundguy Exactly. Why did he pull so much? Because he flooded the engine with fuel. Set to choke, pull until it offers. Set to high idle, pull until saw starts and chain spins. Blip the throttle to set the saw into run/idle.
@Jeremy_810
@Jeremy_810 3 жыл бұрын
4 pulls max on full choke even if it doesn't seem ready to start. It'll still start with a few pulls at high idle. It only took me one time having to start this thing after I flooded it to learn my lesson.

You did a great job on the video. I'm sure I could fix my Stihl fs 110 weed trimmer that now has two broken bolts in the exhaust bold holes. But, he thing that seems impossible is finding the Aftermarket Cylinder Kits. The part number for the fs 110 is: 4180 020 1205. I can't find it on eBay, or Amazon and Stihl doesn't seem part directly to consumers. So how in the heck do you find parts for the Stihl!!

Appreciated the warning about not running it out of gas because it means out the fuel mix. Did not realize that. Exceeding the oil to gas ratio does the same thing, believe it or not
@John_D2
@John_D2 3 жыл бұрын
Negative. You end up with fuel that's not being burned if it's not tuned right and loss of power. Running one 40:1 or 32:1 will not burn it up , even if it's tuned for 50:1.
@TheKrayusKorianis
@TheKrayusKorianis 3 жыл бұрын
Running a saw out of gas does NOT mean it is out of oil. Oil separates below the piston, lubricating everything. Residual oil is sent to the top of the cylinder by the transfer ports with the fuel. That's why 2 cycles smoke a bit when run, they burn oil.

My thoughts... 1) these are consumer grade junk saws. HF Chinese saws are about same quality. 2) Clone cyl. kits are close to same specs. What I’ve found with these is the port timing and/or volume are not quite the same. They will run but never seem to have the same throttle response and they have cheap ring material. But for the price they are the best option and what I tell customers is this should now become your back up saw. 3) case halves. For the life of me I don’t know how you don’t get leaks using that schlack and silicone together!! I bought some of that one minute stuff after watching you and I gotta say that stuff is shit. I used it one time. I went back to ultra black. My two options for sealing case halves are permatex ultra black and yamabond. This stuff along with a can of brake clean is all you need. 4) curious to see ring gap on oem cylinder. 5) bottom case half. Check case flange and steel thimbles. What I’ve found is the case can deform @ thimble and this will not allow the 2 halves to join and seal correctly. 6) best saws are the ones with cylinder and crankcase separate. Called proline saws today or every saw that was built 30-40 years ago.

Too many commercials, You can't use cheap oil in these saws or you will be changing the piston every time you use it. STIHL recommends using double the oil if you use off brand oil like 24 to 1 but that is not good enough if you go off brand use Caster oil synthetic that might be what Stihl oil is anyway. NEVER use junk oil like Briggs & Stratton that burned my saw up even with 20 to 1 mix.
