Stihl is in a lot of ways like Ford. They're old school in the way they run business. Instead of having a board of directors say hey let's make a lot of money all at once by selling, they just kept chugging along, keeping it in the family. Where they've messed up is their consumer grade stuff. It ain't no worse than any other, but it seems like it's all people buy. It's over priced a lot of the time, but a lot of the little saws get used once or twice. They sit around, the fuel goes bad,and they end up on the pile. On the other end of the spectrum, you have the dumbass that buys a bottom dollar saw and thinks he can run a tree service with it.

The 54cc Poluan might be compared to the Husqvarna 254xp that is also 54cc, or the 357xp that is 56.5cc. Both of those saws are sub 60cc saws on a 60cc crankcase with the 262xp and 359 being the big bore cylinders on the same crankcase.

Id like to see these two saws torn apart, and match up how the inner parts of these two saws compare. The other big thing that Stihl has over most of the competition... Dealer support. You buy a poulan, and need it fixed, good luck, because they're labeled as "throw away" saws. I live in a fairly large city, and you can't find a Husqvarna dealer anywhere close. You can only buy the homeowner Huskies. Sooo that's also why you're paying that price for Stihl. The dealer support, and accessibility.

What does dealer support equate to other than other than being there to sell you more stuff with the same name on it.

Funny, I'm building a Stihl MS390 right now, Its on the bench, just eating a late lunch an getting right back to it right now. Should have it running today. Its ported with a custom pop-up piston, good rings, custom muffler mod and I machined the bearing pockets to move the bearings up to reduce the squish, carb and manifold mods and a few other things. I dont care for that family of saws either (MS 290, 310, 390) however there are some advantages to that saw design. Bearings are much larger than many pro saws, eg: MS361, MS362 and many others. Much harder to egg out the bearing pockets on clam shells when very high compression is involved. Which I think this one will have, we'll see. If it runs strong and your up for it, I'll send it to you for a whack off against a stock 390 or any saw. Ogden Saw Works Wilmington NC

That’s an awesome fun build and they make an excellent low cost work saw! With a 20” bar they are wicked!!! They will pull the 24” good if needed… I’ve pulled the 28” with skipper chain…you have to modify the oiler to get enough oil for the chain…. I love the 1184 for my sealer and I go around the edges of my pan and the entire bottom of the cylinder right around my bearings and be super careful and keep the bearings and seals in their little slots. I take 320 grit and really bevel all my port windows and the piston top and bottom edges also… I sand all sharp edges rounded… run 32:1 for a couple tanks then 40:1… the muffler has that flap that you drill with a 3/4” then put the cover with it’s plate ground back some… fun build so enjoy it! The Hyway piston is great from hls pro parts.com

I like the wild things too. A muffler, and intake mod,get rid of the primer bulb, twenty inch bar, with .325 chain and you got a good light good handling saw for small to medium sized stuff. It ain't something you want to bury knee deep, and ride through, but it will save your back on the small stuff. Non strato of course.

Husqvarna 362xp 362xp special, 362XPG Special. Early models were small bar (K095) Then late medel was large mount (D009).. Early models had a unique Gilardoni 47mm top end and late model were 48mm like the 365. Great saws same chassis as 365/372xp.

@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack 2 жыл бұрын
They know. But as to what you are referring to, between these two saws, the Stihl will have more breakdowns than the Poulan if the were both ran all day long every day. The modern Stihls are not what they used to be. Used to be, the only difference between the pro saws ad the farm/ranch saws or even homeowner grade, was that the pro saws had more power. Not the case anymore, and the Stihl 311 is nothing special and would not outlast this Poulan.

@@novicelumberjack I've only owned pro saws from stihl and husky. I've owned homeowner saws from craftsman, echo, and Poulan. I do believe Stihl to be the best buy for me. Husky is good also, except for their screws and bar nuts vibrating loose regularly. Loctite makes it a pain to maintain.
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack 2 жыл бұрын
I can understand enjoying a brand, and Stihl has made some very good saws. I have owned probably 20-30 Husqvarna Jonsered saws. Only one of them have ever lost a single bolt or nut. In turn, I have owned a Stihl 460 that I could not keep together. It rattled everything loose. I even went to start it once and it had rattled all but one of the recoil bolts loose and I ended up ripping the entire recoil assembly off the saw. It took a chunk of the case with it. That was when I began to truly turn away from Stihl. So, there are horror stories with all the brands. But to think that one is exclusively the best...that's foolish.

Poluan is made by Husqvarna. Husqvarna/Poulan cuts faster because they rev higher. The older 029 Stihl was a 55cc and would have been a better match. BTW, I got really lucky, if you believe in luck, and bought an 029 for $65 that all it needed was fresh gas.

I see a lot of similarities between the 024/026 series saws and the these Poulans 2800-3750. Maybe its similar to the 036 too, my 044 is just different enough around the airbox with a big air filter to not make me see the similarities.

@@ozdatman well, if you wanna get technical my 026 Pro will absolutely destroy my PP305 they’re both 49cc. PP305 is running a 16” bar with 3/8 LP full comp full chisel chain. 026 pro is running 20” bar 3/8” full comp full chisel chain. Again, I like my Poulans but in stock form they lack power in general by comparison. They just don’t match up performance wise cc for cc to any of my other saws. That’s just my experience.

As with anything, there are good 3400's,and bad. I've experienced both. Can't do anything about heavy, but a port job does a lot of good. Some of those saws had so much squish that they won't even stay running when you set them down. Not enough dynamic compression. I have two craftsman 3.7 saws ,and I've helped them both out. No base gasket, and a little cleanup on the ports. One started out better than the other, but now they both run better. Still heavy. The thing I like about them is they're tough and reliable, not the fastest thing around, but they start every time, and they'll out last me.

Proof that Americans don't actually want a quality made American product, and they haven't for years. These were in production up until sometime around 2006 or so. Made in America. I like both brands STIHL and Husqvarna and as you probably know your self there is good and bad in certain models saws in both brands. It’s important for those Stihl fanboys to try one of the real Poulan’s is what it’s all about… they all aren’t Walmart $100 dollar saw’s…. Gotta use your brain and do your homework and not repeat stuff that you hear on the innerweb…. There’s several models in each brand that are totally awesome saw’s… and there’s some real sleeper’s in that group too! I was a landscaper/tree guy who works for myself… I ran the Poulan and Poulan’s in Craftmen wrapping though the 80’s into the 90’s getting started…. I’d climb trees and do removals with a silver craftsmen 2.0or 2.3… The inventor of the nikasil cylinder lining was a German and he said that only the German Stihl company could use his patten … the chrome lining was done once that was said and the makers folded up or sold out…. Looking back we see those old chrome lined cylinders were pretty good!!! Lot’s of hysteria and hype…

Any time you see "Farm boss", "rancher" or whatever, you know its a pile of junk. The marketing is making up for the lack of capability.

LMAO. I love it. Now watch all the Stihl fans chime in with excuses on why their brand lost. Happens way too much. Excuses Excuses. Stihl and their overpriced clamshell saws. In order to get a halfway decent Stihl is to buy one of their pro saws and pay over $1,000. The only brand that doesn't offer magnesium cases on saws unless they're one of their pro line saws. Didn't used to be like that. Stihl puts out more plastic than anything now.

Are you being sarcastic? I really can't tell. Or arebyou simply certain that the Stihl wouldnt get beat by a Poulan? I go through a lot of effort to make sure these Wack-Offs are extremely fair. I cut 14" x 14" cants of red oak specifically to make it fair. I also run out of the box Husqvarna X-cut chain. I keep it as fair as I can. Stihl has been very successful in their marketing, and Poulan used to make professional grade saws. Everything you watched is true.

Always somebody gotta badmouth the Poulan. Why? You just watched it beat the pants off a bigger, more expensive, newer Stihl. You should be saying, "Wow, that seems like a great saw". Their marketing has you hooked so bad, you can't see the truth even when it's staring you right in the face.
