I have one and it annihilates every block I test it on. Its far better and easier than any axe I have ever used with the added bonus of it never sticking badly in the block. As others have pointed out your chopping block is a bit high, but using a block (just preferably a shorter one) is far better than trying to split on the ground. The only people who think differently happen to split their wood on ground as hard and flat as concrete I assure you. Good video.

Bought and used one at the end of this season.....works great....oak , birch, aspen , cherry , walnut.....still tough to do elm without a regular maul and wedges.

Saw this in store and it’s definitely the GEDORE / Oschenkopf (Oxhead) maul if anyone can’t get ahold of the Stihl one.
@filoIII3 жыл бұрын
Fiskars maul is $55. Is the Gedore ox for $110 twice as good?

That's a good looking maul, love the steel collar on the handle and the hook on the corner of the blade. Everyone raves about the Fiskars but I can't get past the synthetic handle.
@S0CC3RB0Y183 жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about the Fiskar. I also love the collar on the Stihl maul too.

The fiskars has a lifetime warranty if it breaks the stihl probably not. I use the x27 and have no problems splitting most wood.

I hate fiskars products however I like the 8 lb maul alottt no shock in the handle at all

@@waynejohnson9855 oksenkopf has similar one. It's not synthetic and has lifetime warranty. I have the fiskars sledge ans it's great. Bu5 it's not as nice and elegant as a wooden axe, particularly exotic dense woods! 💪

I use the Husqvarna 2800 & it does everything I need, not only splitting but felling too. However would still like one of these as it looks soo nice and would be useful in certain circumstances!

Yes, I get that. Definitely wouldn't be bad to have.

My Stihl maul came without the gray protection that yours has at the end of the handle. Do you know why? Is it a cheaper model or an older on?

Its funny how distinct cherry is compared to other wood. I've also noticed that the green cherry has a sweet smell to it.
@S0CC3RB0Y185 жыл бұрын
You are so right...Thinking about it, green cherry does have a very sweet smell to it. I have been splitting some cedar recently and that smells good too.

Go to your local Stihl dealer and they should be able to fix you up! If not, here's a link to purchase online! Just did a quick google search. www.acehardware.com/departments/tools/hand-tools/hatchets/2000722?store=08216&source=google&medium=cpc&gclid=Cj0KCQjww4OMBhCUARIsAILndv5GuAolD8bemnDtNIIW-Sfm6G6-uQdtie_A567tBp0OB4KjUG_qrIgaAl9QEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

You don’t need a maul. Putting your stick of wood on a block that high or on any block kills the momentum of your swing. I like splitting by hand and have for about 45 years. Tried it all including wood splitters. Just a good splitting axe is all you need.
