using the correct gauge wire also helps, I found that the orange wire tends to stick together on humid days, thus jamming the feeding line. I use the 2,5mm green wire, no problems what so ever.

The solution is to replace that head with the echo speed feed 400 head. It should have all the mounting hardware and instructions for your trimmer.

I´m also not very pleased with that Autocut... The line often stucks and I have to open the head every few weeks.

Exactly my experience. Just done 40 minutes strimming and had to take it to pieces twice to feed the line through when it snapped. most frustrating!!!

@@RedNemesisDogPrime Same here... used it yesterday just for 20 minutes and again had to open it. Not a lot of fun with it... Regret having bought it. My FS 40 also has a very sensitive throttle, so it´s very hard to keep it in the lower rpm and otherwise the grass is flying 3 meters away in areas where it shouldn´t.

You are partly right, you don't remove the head to add new line, you just line the arrows up and pass the line through then rotate the white bit to wind the line in. but once the head is badly it will be hard to do so either way. But for me I'd still upgrade mine as my garden is not so harsh.

This is incorrect as 9 time out of 10 the line breaks inside the head so you need to remove the head fully to remove the end of the line and load new. Used my Stihl FSA60 three times, been back to dealer who showed me to keep the trimmer slightly raised up when working. However it still snaps the line inside the head, so I am leaning towards this auto feed head being simply not fit for purpose as I am spending more time taking the head off and feeding the line from scratch each time. The Auto feed may work once or twice before it snaps off inside the head. I have even tried upgrading the line to the Stihl pro with no obvious benefit seen. In my opinion from using my FSA60 three times, the auto feed is simply not working as described by the manufacturer therefore not fit for its intended purpose. I reached out to Stihl whose response was simply to go back to the dealer.

@@Elfin4 Yes, this is what I have as well. I use to have a petrol trimmer with an auto head and it was way better.

@@leedavies9158 yeah I have tried soaking the trimmer line in a bucket of water for days/weeks and it makes no difference to the line breaking inside the auto head. I really do believe it to be a defective design by Stihl and clearly they are not interested in correcting it for the consumer.

That same thing happened to me. It had me shouting and swearing in a customers garden 😮! I think that it is just cheep and bad design. The solution is to buy a better head. 👍

Yes it does seem a bit shabby, and very frustrating. I tried a durocut 5-2 at the end of the summer and it is pretty good - however the white plastic is soft and wears quickly, and of course you have to keep bunging in lengths of line, but even so significantly less frustrating. @@RedNemesisDogPrime I have a Husqvarna 525 petrol with a T35 head, and it's superb. Always bumps line and easy to load. You can get this head as a universal kit like the Speedfeed head but I'm not sure that it will fit despite the adaptors. On my fsa86r, when you unscrew the c6-2 head, the fan for the electric motor has raised tabs that fit inside the recesses at the back of the head. I can't see how universal kits will fit as the back of the heads are completely flat with no recess. Unless it just screws up against the tabs leaving a gap, which would certainly provide airflow for the motor. I hope I'm wrong because I would love the Husky head to work on this machine.

Everything is part of the cutting head - I have now had 2 and all the parts were the same (as was the process...)

@@RedNemesisDogPrime Thanks. Not same for me. Bought spare (all cutting head) original 2 weeks ago. And the ring is not included in parts. Also if you look at spare foil, the ring is not stated, for this reason I'm asking which is the function of the ring. Not included also in spare parts of the machine FS-38. If not included into spare parts, for me have no reason to exist.

Fuck, just had to buy the autocut to replace my head on my FS40, I have a Kawasaki strimmer, such a simple system to re-cord, whats happened to German engineering? both my stihl strimmer and hedge trimmer regularly get bunged up carburettors?? I blame Covid..LOL

Stop using fuel with ethanol and empty the fuel tank + purge the machine of remaining fuel If not using for prolonged periods.

@@jayytee8062 Cheers mate. I do the clean fuel down but the fuel itself I add ' Fuel Fit' by Briggs and Stratton as was advised. The Kawasaki motor...never any problem. I appreciate your comment thanks G

This is a how not to do it video or a how to break your trimmer head. You don't lever the cap off with a screwdriver just unscrew it by hand, no need for a spanner.
