You could see he was genuinely scared that Paul may die and not actually be the lisan al gaib, then you see his moment of relief. He was probably praying the entire time. His faith came so close to being tested. Man, Javier Bardem was so great on this role.

This character had such a weird and unintentional effect. He is meant to portray the fanatical side of the group and the danger it entails. At the start, he was a simple believer that acted as a mentor to Paul, to then evolved into a fanatic follower that drops rationality at the say-so of his suppose Messiah. Also losing the rest of his line to just, “Lisan Al-Gaib!” Instead of seeing him this way, people are seeing the goofy side of him akin to Life of Brian’s follower. 😂
