I love my 025. It is as strong as my MS 250’s and starts a lot easier than they do. Plus it is 2# lighter. It will handle most logging and bucking chores. Mine has a 18 inch Stihl bar with a .063 RS chain on it, .325 pitch, I will pick it up a lot quicker than I do my new MS 250’s.

I am late to the comment section, but I have recently started getting into tinkering on saws and came across your channel. So far, I have only been making old junk run again to stock specs. In the past few months, I have played around on Poulan 3314, 3416, 4018, pro5020, a Mastercraft version of the micro xxv, a Stihl 009, ms250, and ms290. I am hoping to learn more about saws and small engines in general. Your videos are awesome! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone.

I forgot you asked what we were working on. I just finished a Jred 490 big bore upgrade. Chinese cyl and piston decked .035 to correct squish. Ported intake and exhaust and debuted everything. She's had 2 tanks of fuel now, cutting stand dead bone dry white ash. It's easy on fuel and I am happy with it. Thanks Harvey

Glad to hear you’re feeling better Harvey. Great timing for me with the 025. Just started an 029 myself and the very first upgrade I did is the rim sprocket. So much smoother and just an all around better drive system. Threw the timing wheel on it and was quite surprised by the numbers. .032” squish, ex 158, tr 118 and intake 160 duration. Bumped the the exhaust to 162 and the transfers bumped up to 120 total duration by cleaning up the ports. Widened the intake a pinch and called it good. Also surprising is the size of the carb on this thing. It’s bigger than a stock 272! Anyway, long story but all the issues this thing had was the usual dried up, rock hard fuel, impulse and oil hose, and crank seals. Cleaned her all up just like you do and Bobs your uncle. I learned something today. I changed out the rubber seals on the caps and what do you know, they unscrew much easier now! No need for a chainsaw wrench or pliers to get the caps off! Take care guys. Hope you don’t mind me sharing!

Hey Ironhorse first time post but a big fan of the channel. As a Land Surveyor, I have always preferred Estwing hammers good stuff. The one thing is that blue rubber grip. That sucker will get slick as snot after awhile from grime sweat and wear. I've winged a lot of hammers out of my hand and it's when I know I got to clean the grip and rough it up with sandpaper. I have that hatchet in my work truck and it goes with me on camping and hunting trips, it's a real peach. Happy you got that illness in the rearview mirror and back to the videos I learn so much.

Hello Harv, I will comment on a newer video shortly, but I just acquired an older Stihl 025 today, a bit of a basket case, but has compression, along with an older craftsman chainsaw as well! So i will be going back and forth on your videos later as I work on them, will also be getting a Stihl 660 that doesn’t run at this time! On all these saws, i will be starting with the basics to get them running!

Hey Harvey! Nice little video on some general maintenance. I do every step you showed with my Stihl MS230 (slightly smaller brother of the MS250/025) and my Husqvarna 445 about once a month... Here in Newfoundland, Canada I cut mostly softwood for firewood (spruce, Balsam fir, Eastern Larch) and my saw gets gummed up pretty good, especially when cutting balsam fir. I also check my coil/flywheel for gummy buildup, probably wouldn't impede anything performance wise but it's nice to keep it clear. Stan

Harvey, I have worked on many ms 250,s and 025. Most of them that i have worked on have an adjustment for the high carb setting. The access hole for adjustment is in the black part of the handle just to the right of your low setting screw. At 21:40 in the video look for the hole in the handle about an inch from the low setting screw. Love your videos!!!!!

I gree about using power tools on saws. I may take one apart with a drill, but I put it back together with my T handle wrench. I wash starters with two cycle gas and a paintbrush, blowing it off with compressed air after I am through gettin most of the grease and sawdust off of it. I want them to be like new when I am through. I do the same thing to the coil side, brush with gas and blow with air. The oil in the two cycle gas will lubricate most of the moving parts.

Hey guys. I'm working on an 025 myself. It cuts out when throttle is released. Got me buggered. Going to replace impulse line, intake boot and fuel lines. Hoping one of those will fix it. I don't usually like home brought stihls due to being so annoying to work on. Got given it so tidying it up to sell it. On the other rebuild bench i have a few older girls. Husqvarna 380S. I'm doing a top end rebuild on. Also a Remington Powerlite PL5a. Thats had full teardown and inspection and is getting a top end build. Managed through share luck to find a NOS piston for it then found stihl 49mm x 1.5mm rings fit with gaping down to 48.5mm. Hopefully i sort this damn stihls issue out so i can get some funds for more "actual" chainsaw goodness. Cheers

Love the 025/250. You can get the rim drum and sprocket for both ⅜lp & .325" pitches from the dealer. Cost me around $50 for the drum, e-clip, washer and both sprockets. Makes it very versatile on different wood. Also about the adjustment screws. There's all 3 on the 025/250. The L is in the handle on a 250, on the Walbro carb 025's, it's right there by the H.

The other day, my 025 cranked up with 2,2 pulls. Which is my note for two pulls in cold start before it rolled over and then I push it up to half choke and two pulls to run. I cannot ever beat that unless it has been running and then it cranks up in one pull. But cold, 2,2P is the best I can ever expect from any saw.

I noticed Cullen was squinting and a little jumpy when you first were blowing out that chainsaw. What am I working on? A 2000 Husqvarna 372xp, it floods way to easily, but has spark, I'm going to try to adjust the coil air gap to see if it likes that set at .010, .011 or ? That's a cheap test. It's bugging me because all of my other saws start kinda easy, my Pro Mac 10-10s is like 1 pull! When I get caught up on my home improvement projects, it'll be time to start checking the squish and timing numbers on all of them. First things first tho, but Tinman is doing a series on porting so I'm learning from him too. Good times indeed. Be safe Uncle Harv and Cullen! UPDATE: On my Husqvarna 2000 372XP I checked the carbs needle lever and it wasn't set too high but it was set correctly, I then checked the coils air gap and it was set at a very loose .010 so I reset that to a snug .011. Then I noticed the main problem, the air filter was clogged! ROOKIE mistake! After a couple pulls with the air filter off, I got her started, adj the L screw so she accelerated correctly then restarted. Man I really love this hobby! Have a great day everybody!!!!!
