Okay, Brandon, if you like Sabaton, I highly recommend trying Blind Guardian (they have many songs based on Wheel of Time!! And Lord of the Rings, including an entire album for the Silmarillion. Let's just say they are the reason I love metal...😁) or Orden Ogan or Arktida (A Russian symphonic metal band, so no need to worry about distracting lyrics. Also, Slavic metal just...hits different). AMAZING symphonic metal, all vastly different but just brilliant. Also clean vocals; I assume you're not a fan of screaming or growling if you don't like more intense punk.

One of my coworkers introduced me to Sabaton and other European metal bands, I love it they are great! A band that I found recently that has a different kind of retro sound is Des Rocs, and I thought of their song "Used to the Darkness" when Brandon said he doesn't do daytime so I recommend that one for him :) Other random music I found recently (as I have decided to stop listening to the radio because they play the same music over and over and it is annoying) is anime rap/nerdcore music! It is actually really good, I thought that I didn't like rap but I just don't like popularized/gangster rap I guess. A couple of my favorite are Rustage (rapper) and Divide Music (one man rock/metal band). And Rustage actually has a rap he did (on his 2nd KZbin channel) about Mistborn

if Brandon (or anyone reading this, for that matter!) enjoys country with that rock edge, might I suggest Songs: Ohia's "Magnolia Electric Co." album? it's gloomy alt-country where you've got the twang you'd expect, but with a full band and a harder, distinctly Black Sabbath-y edge. Farewell Transmission in particular is a favourite song of mine! fantastic album cover, too

I am very much the opposite of most writers that I've talked to about music. I have a hard time focusing on my writing in silence, it's easier to write when I have music to listen to, and I can write while listening to music that has lyrics, no problem. Music that all sounds really samey I can't stand, I need there to be some amount of variety. I think maybe it's just my ADHD brain needing the extra stimulation to focus, because that's an interesting thing I've learned, not enough stimulation and too much stimulation are both an issue for people with ADHD, so if one can create the right balance it becomes easier to focus. It's the reason why I listen to podcasts and solve puzzles at the same time, and why I had to doodle while in classes.

See the thing about Country Music is that, as a genre, it’s just as bad as fantasy for being hard to pin down exactly what it is. You got everything in there, twang-twang, epic love ballads, folk music, novelty songs, rock, pop etc. Although I like most of it, country has the worst tearjerkers ever (ref: Greatest Man by Reba) so I don’t listen to it much anymore.

I really, really love the Dan Yawns Before the Podcast Podcast! I love listening to these conversations. Music, music. I hate Hotel California. College can really ruin music. But, on my own, I just dislike Opera and improv jazz. 🤮 I met Steve Perry when I was 16, and he was a real jerk. But as of 1987, they did exist. 🤣 Olivia Rodrigo's music is actually just good. I have no kids or teen influences, so when I like music, I just like it. She's kind of amazing at breakup songs. I'd love for you guys to try Great Big Sea. They're no longer together as a group, but so much great music. Especially the Newfoundland-based stuff. Also... Dude. "That Canadian kid." 🤣 Justin Bieber had married into a really good artist. His collabs are fantastic. Ed Sheeran is a little like Midas in the music world. You two make me laugh, think, and just relax. Also Garth Brooks is one of the best selling artists of all time, not just in country. If argue Willie Nelson is more famous... Modern Country is barely Country, honestly. They've started incorporating rap and minor keys, though, which actually do some great things for Country music. But when I was younger, I used to go line dancing, and we'd be doing dances to Kids and ACDC as well as current country of the time. 😁
