Grandma June learns a lesson about respecting the property of her grandchildren when she tosses out a comic book that Beaver’s youngest son Ollie and Wally’s daughter Kelly found in her attic and intend to sell, and then finds out it is a valuable collector’s edition worth a fortune in this 24th commercial-free episode of the Still the Beaver revival series called “WOW” that debuted on The Disney Channel Oct. 16, 1985.
Meanwhile, Eddie Haskell stoops to new lows to create a commercial for his business when he stands on the grave of his father, and the rest of the Cleaver family and friends put on costumes for Hallowe’en.
Ten year-old Giovanni Ribisi (credited here as Vonni) shows up again in a continuing role as Ollie’s best friend Duffy, in this case Ollie’s second head.
This is the 24th of 26 episodes in 1984-85 before the series featuring most of the original cast of Leave it to Beaver, including Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow, moved to WTBS Superstation for three more seasons under the name The New Leave it to Beaver from 1986-89.
These videos are taken from my Betamax VCR personal recordings of the show when it originally aired.

I liked the opening credits and how June and the Beaver saw the kids off to school. This is the first time I've seen any of the "new Beaver" shows. I was overseas much of the 80s, so this is all new to me. Overall, it's pretty cool.

In the opening remarks of this Episode, Barbara Billingsley mentions that "there's no such thing as a time machine, and yet often turning a page can bring us much closer to the past....and sometimes close enough to reach that part of us which never gets old." For us now in current times, You Tube videos can have that effect (songs, movies, etc.). Thank you for sharing this and the other "Still the Beaver" and "New Lit Beaver" episodes.

I always hated how teachers slammed you for reading comics as pointless fantasy that you wouldn't learn anything from but insisted on pushing books such as Charlotte's Web and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Who cares WHAT you're reading as long as you're reading.

@@shettrick I think Wally having grey hair and the Wally, Eddie, and Lumpy watching the Munsters made we think it was a TBS episode. At the time the Munsters reruns were very popular on TBS. A few months after the show premiered on TBS reruns of Still the Beaver were also being shown. After the show was cancelled WWOR showed reruns and the Still the Beaver episodes were shown using the the New Leave it to Beaver intro.

Gotcha, makes sense. Yes, those syndicated reruns all under the name New Leave it to Beaver ran for just a couple years in early 1990s and that was the last the show has even been seen except for my recordings I started posting on KZbin several years ago. Those reruns were heavily edited -- several minutes cut out of episodes removed to allow more commercials, dialogue altered, laugh track edited, and many other changes. The first TV reunion movie was re-cut into four separate episodes - I made a video showing all those changes here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooW5c6Oom6uKjKc . And here's an exampled of all the changes made for reruns to Still the Beaver episodes originally shown on The Disney Channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX21pHxsfLGLbcU

Hi Scott. Thanks for uploading Still the Beaver & The New Leave it to Beaver series. At the time our house had the Disney Channel but not TBS until years later. So on this particular Episode #24 right before Oliver & Kelly come up to the attic we see a painting of Blue Boy. This painting along with another painting called Pinkie were from the original Leave it to Beaver series & hung on either side of the door at 211 Pine Street. I was going to upload a picture of them but I couldn’t. I didn’t know if you caught that. Growing up we had a picture of Pinkie in our hallway but now it’s up in our attic. LOL.

Glad you are enjoying -- very unusual to have brand new pay network Disney Channel but not several years old basic cable channel WTBS. Good observation about Blue Boy and Pinkie -- super popular paintings in people's homes in 1950s-60s

This is the only episode I ever saw in the 80's, for some reason they played this one episode on non cable. It was shown on KTLA Channel 5 in the Los Angeles area. They might have been doing a test to see how well it would do. KTLA was an independent channel back than but started running first run syndicated shows in mid 80's. What's Happening Now, Out of this World, My Secret Identity etc.. I think the producers were shopping the show around because they knew they were already cancelled by Disney.
@shettrick
@shettrick 5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, interesting. The series was exclusive to The Disney Channel through 1985 and then picked up very quickly exclusively for three more seasons by Ted Turner for his TBS Superstation - a record order/commitment at the time of 74 shows all at once upfront, and they started showing in fall 1986, just 9 months after Still the Beaver ended on The Disney Channel at end of 1985, and exclusive to Turner 1986-89. Dunno how or why KTLA would have gotten rights to show any episodes in 1980s, let alone just specific one. Interesting

@@shettrick KTLA did that a lot in those days, showed on off episodes of shows. I remember seeing "Super Sentai" years before it became Power Rangers. They showed one episode on a Saturday afternoon and I didn't see it again until years later when it became Power Rangers. KTLA used to show things no one else would show. They could have been a National Network if they wanted too. Gene Autry owned the station and the California Angels and had tons of cash. I remember this Beaver episode specifically and was excited because I liked the Fantastic Four and that I might be able to finally watch the New Beaver show.

Glad my mom didn't have June's attitude, comics are what turned me into a serious reader. Oh, and now I see why I didn't recall the name change, I think when the series was on hiatus till TBS got it, I lost interest in high school, and never saw the last three seasons.

@@michaelleary9233 The character of June didn't like Comics because in the 1950's, there was a huge push to remove Comic's from the hands of minor's. The Comics code authority was created as a comprise.

something occurs to me while watching this: The Clevers have at least 3 bedrooms. They must have because Beaver and June have to have their own rooms. Their not sharing a room. Then his kids have a room. So at least 3 bedrooms. So, why did Wally and Beaver share a bedroom on the original show? Makes no sense.
@shettrick
@shettrick 2 жыл бұрын
You wrote "Beaver and June have to have their own rooms; they're not sharing a room." I don't understand this -- you mean Ward and June? They share a room -- we see them in their bedroom in a couple episodes. All that is ever shown upstairs in their house to my knowledge is two bedrooms - the parents' bedroom to left at top of stairs and the boys' bedroom to the right. With that big of a house, you'd think there would be plenty of room for a third bedroom upstairs. If there was, it would most likely be used for a guest bedroom. But I assume you know that the main reason Beaver and Wally shared a room was for the purpose of giving them way more interaction with each other and with their friends for the purpose of being more entertaining for the viewer.
@anniesizemore3344
@anniesizemore3344 2 жыл бұрын
@@shettrick No. I meant there must be at least 3 bedrooms in the Cleaver house because Beaver is certainly not sharing a bedroom with his mother😂 and his kids have a bedroom. But if there are at least 3 bedrooms in the Cleaver house, then in the real word Beaver and Wally would have separate rooms. I do understand having Beaver and Wally share a room was for plot purposes that were more entertaining than if they had separate rooms.
@shettrick

@@anniesizemore3344 Ah thanks, now I understand what you are saying -- sorry about that. Yes, what you are saying makes sense. Some people liked to maintain a guest bedroom for visiting family and friends, and I shared a bedroom with my brother too until I was in junior high school, but yes, you'd think when Wally got to high school, in real life he would have moved into that third bedroom they never showed us on either the original or the new series, but which they must have had, as you rightly point out.

I Am glad that Beaver let the kids decide since it was their and the wally or his anymore cause that annoys me when a kid finds or get some money and the parent makes them put it in the bank like on an ep of Andy Griff when opie found $50 and Andy made him put $40 IN THE BANK and only let him have 10 that was wrong cause it wasn't Andy to decide and If Opie wanted to spend it foolish that was up to him it's the same when grandparents sent the kids birthday or Christmas money they sent it for the kid to spend how they want but the parent take it from the kid and put it in the bank.
