This lens is sharp, though it does have a fair amount of field curvature at wider angles (a hemispherical depth of field). All the same, by targeting my focus on the long side, I can usually keep corners in focus, and by combining this with Canon's DPP4 editor, processed RAW images can be among the best I have seen from any super-wide-angle. As an owner and regular user of this lens, I highly recommend it.

Looking for some advice. Which one of these lenses is the best choice for shooting real estate with the Canon M50 within a $200 - $400 range? Also, would the VILTROX EF-EOS M2 Auto Focus Lens Adapter 0.71x Reducer Speed Booster work well with these lenses? Tokina Wide 11-16mm f2.8 - the focus noise is not an issue for me since I'll be removing the ambient noise for my real estate videos. Rokinon 10mm f2.8 Ultra Wide Angle Canon 10-18mm f2.8 Rokinon 16M-C 16mm f/2.0 Aspherical Wide Angle Sigma 16mm f1.4 Rokinon never made the 12mm f2.0 AF for the Canon, so that's out unfortunately! @BlackCat02945 жыл бұрын
Great review gorgeous sample images and videos, keep it up! Could anyone please help me choose a wideangle lense please? I'm torn between a Canon 10-18mm and a 10-22mm and driving myself crazy trying to decide, each of those lenses has its strong side. Though from what I've heard 10-18 actually provides sharper image in general. I'm getting a Canon 77d and the next lens I have is a 24-70mm. Not really sure if a 2-6mm gap is going to bother me. I need a lens for shooting interior in tight, fairly dark spaces and also landscapes in mostly sunny weather. I'm also planning to get into taking a bit of video (my previous 550d didn't give me that option). The price difference doesn't really matter, since I've already found a used (but almost new) 10-22mm in the same price range as the 10-18mm... Please help, any advice would be really appreciated!!

That really depends on what you want to achieve. 4mm wider makes a lot more difference. The IS makes this lens great for photography., you have 4 stops improved.
@ladygigi90974 жыл бұрын
This was really useful, thanks! May i ask as I have just just started learning about lenses/cameras etc in the last few days! Ive been ultra confused about crop factor etc but what im deducing from your review here is that if I were to use this wide EF-S lens on a non-full frame camera, (Say a C100 mkii- that im planning to buy) that there will be no crop factor? So 10mm will actually be true to 10mm? Whereas if if I used as EF lens (Say the Canon EF 24-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens ) on the same C100 camera, this is when the crop factor will start showing up? So the image will appear less wide than it would on say a 5D mkii? Is that right?
@ricetheories4 жыл бұрын
Sorry didn't see this earlier. You probably found out the answer, but to summarise - the 'mm' on the lens does not change whether EF- S or EF, so in an "EF 50mm" will look the same as an "EF-S 50mm" on the same camera. The difference happens between full-frame and crop-sensor cameras: 50mm will be true 50mm on a full-frame and on a crop-sensor it will be closer to around 75mm I thin, while a 35mm on a full-frame will give you 50mm when put onto a crop-sensor. The main difference between EF and EF-S lenses is that the EF-S mount only works on crop sensor bodies and not full frame while the EF works on both types.

if you have to choose between 35 mm 50mm and 10-18 what would you say??
@ricetheories4 жыл бұрын
Hi, for me on a APS-C camera I would actually like a 35mm with large aperture (like F1.8 or F2). It will give great depth of field like the 50mm while being wider and fitting more into the frame than a 50mm can. On a full-frame camera the 50mm is perfect.

nice video. I have been considering purchasing the canon 10-18 or 10-22 for landscapes. I believe I will go with the 10-18 because of the cost difference, ( I am retired) and because I don't see much difference between the lens to justify that extra cost. I currently use a Canon 18-55, 28-105 and sometime I use my 55-250 when the situation call for a long lens.
@ricetheories6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, the cost difference between this and the 10-22mm is not to be ignored. I've used the 10-22mm briefly and it is noticeably better built, but also much heavier and bigger. I think the 10-18mm is a great first wide angle to buy.

Is there a 3rd party wide angle lens better than the Canon 's lens?

Hi. I a beginner about lenses and I am searching for wide angle lens. I'm torn (kind of) between the canon 10-18 mm lens with image stabilization but with f/4.5 and 10-22 mm lens but without image stabilization with f/3.5. I dont know if you are familiar of the two lenses but in your opinion, which lens should be better? Thank youu
@ricetheories3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I don't have much experience with the 10-22mm but if you plan to mainly use the lens for video/vlogging I'd probably go 10-18mm as it's smaller, lighter and the image stabilisation in can help a lot. The 10-22 is more toughly built and being f3.5 will give slightly better low light/bokeh so probably better for wide portraits if that's your thing. With almost 3x price difference where I live I'd probably go for the 10-18mm.

Can you tell me, does the focus ring "rattle" a bit when you try to push it back and forth? I have the 18-55mm STM kit lens, and on that lens the focus ring is somewhat loose (it turns smoothly, but it's not well damped).
@ricetheories6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't, at least mine is built tight and rattle-free. The ring itself turns very smoothly. However I also have a 50mm f1.8 STM and it's focus ring feels quite different and rougher, so maybe it differs from lens to lens.

Which lens would you recommend for group photos? I'm talking a family of 20 or more. I've heard mixed reviews between 50mm and 70-200mm. I also have the 24mm but wondering if a 10-18mm would be better? I'm not a professional photographer, just someone who's starting out and have done a few shoots but not for a large family reunion type thing.
@alexanderjanosko3266 жыл бұрын
suzanx 50 isnt really good for group photos, would be really cramped, 70-200 is even worse. Your 24mm should be good and the 10-18mm could be even better, but be careful with shooting people at the widest angles, they tend to get distorted.
@ricetheories6 жыл бұрын
Hi, what camera do you have? I'd say a lens between 20mm and 30mm, like your 24mm would work well for group photos. I personally find the 10-18mm too wide for nice group portraits - unless you want to take a selfie - it's great for that. As mentioned above, the 50mm is generally not wide enough for group photos (you'll have to shoot from very far away to fit everyone in) but again, it depends whether your camera has a full-frame or APS-C sensor - full-frames will fit more into the frame than an APS-C using the same lens.
@suzanx6 жыл бұрын
I have the Canon 5D Mark II
@ricetheories6 жыл бұрын
I think your 24mm or a 35mm would work well for large group photos, it'll be quite wide on a 5D and fit everyone in. If you want to get nice bokeh (blurry backgrounds) with your photos, a 50mm would give beautiful shots - you'll just have to set up the camera further away. Note: this 10-18mm lens does not fit onto full-frame cameras such as the your 5D so using this lens won't be an option.

so the lens is only good in the day time but at night it's not a great camera lens to use. i want a lens for taking wide shots and i can use the 50mm for other things righjt
@ricetheories3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right. In the dark situations the camera will need to artificially brighten the image which will lead to blurry/noisy shots. It's great in good daylight though, if you have the 50mm too it won't be wide but will work fine in dark places.
@jeremypinder44363 жыл бұрын
@@ricetheories so with the 50mm 1.8 i can take pictures in low light situation but do i turn up the iso or leave it the way it is cause on this old camera it says 100 200 400 800 1600 and that's all so i need a camera with 3200 6400 and 12800
@ricetheories3 жыл бұрын
@@jeremypinder4436higher ISO settings on any camera (especially Canon) will give too much noise so it's more for emergency use. On my older camera I try to not go over 800. I will use 1600 as an emergency. If you are a beginner I recommend you leave ISO on auto and focus practising adjusting the aperture and shutter speed first. Hope this makes sense.

Can I use this Len on a cannon m50 or do I need a adapter?
@ricetheories4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the M50 is a Canon mirrorless so uses the different EF-M mount lenses (this is an EF-S mount lens). However, Canon makes an adapter that allows you to use the EF and EF-S lenses. There are also other brands that make them. Something like this: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/883406-REG/Canon_6098b002_EF_M_Lens_Adapter_Kit.html
