I have a Mako 1 with the blue dial. I usually prefer black dials but the Mako blue dial looks so good, especially in the sun. My Mako is my favorite dive watch.

My favourite Orient is my Mako USA (II?). It addresses a lot of the Mako II shortcomings. I bought it for $200 on a Boxing Day sale.

Just found your channel. It’s right up my alley. I have a mix of citizen, marathon, Oris, tissot, seiko and others but in the grand scheme of things all on the lower end of watch prices. Im all about the dial and the design and I don’t care what the brand name is. If it’s a good useable attractive piece then that’s all that matters to me. Couple things: 1. Sold my Mako II bc it was just too big for me. 2. The San Martin is better made. By like... A LOT. 3. Orient makes really good original dive watches for the price

How meaningful are these specifications nowadays? Of course it's great to have a professional watch (and the NY0040 is indeed fantastic), but for us desk divers it's not that crucial. Plus, if a brand like Orient says it can be good for skin dive then i believe it (specially because the most wet recreation i do is just sea swimming, and i'm a terribly swimmer, lol).

I like the Orient Ray 2 because the markers are round. Which i think gives the dial vetter symetry. Ray2 can also be had for less than $200 smackers.

I bought a Kanno with black pepsi dial, it is 5-7 seconds fast per day, lumen is very good. I like it very much.

How did you turn the metal finish into brushed? Do you have a tutorial? I have a Orient Kano and would also like to apply a brushed metal finish!

just get some scotch bright or one of the rough sponges and start rubbing away. I'll shoot a video tutorial but it's as easy as it sounds. I think I used 300 grit sand paper on the edge of the bezel. be careful around the bezel insert though

Orient is sooo Organic! Its kinda 2 hundred professional!!!;) And it feels awesome in hands! Solid, simple, natural. Omega, for example, dont give that feeling (for the $$$)). Omega is very good enough, marvel tech...and so on...but Orient, Ray, especially 1 edition - is Great pleasing overall! I believe , Today's MakoRay version would be good offspring for original Mako & Ray! Thanks!:)

Kamasu has been my daily watch for years and I can't see myself ever changing. Island watch makes a perfect stainless bracelet for it. Might fit the mako also idk. The lack of sapphire crystal helps the price point but I'd prefer the Kamasu over the mako personally.

I don't love it. I don't own one and would not wear one, but that's just me and my personal style preferences. I don't like the numeral hour markers, I either want all of the hour markers to be numerals or none of them. And I don't like the weird bezel design. I do like the hands though. One of my favorite watches in my rotation is the Orient Kano. They got the styling right with it.

I’ve just been gifted an extraordinary watch with a ridiculously low price tag. Big words, I know. But the value it brings to the table is nothing short of amazing: for 180€, this British brand called Cestrian (Dive Series 300m Automatic) gets you all the bells and whistles: sapphire crystal, NH35 movement, polished case, really decent and solid bracelet, applied indices, lots of lume, 120 click sapphire insert rotating bezel and great measurements to top it all off. But it looks and feels so much more expensive… it’s mind boggling. I reckon it might just change your mind…

Orient Mako II, Ray II and even the Kamasu and Kamasu II can be found for under $200, and they all offer better specifications than the Seiko 5KX at the same price-point, for instance. Definitely great solid and original options from a very reputable brand. Yours looks good on this strap; i agree that the bracelet's end links are poor (although i learned to live with it), but they had to cut corners somewhere i guess. I paid $180 for my Kamasu II black-grey last Christmas and in my opinion it's a gold standard of what a budget diver must be.

I has an Orient Mako, I liked it all right, but I could not turn the bezel with my hands wet. The day/date window is very large and the logo and cursive font at 6 o’clock are not of my liking. I prefer a Citizen Promaster NY0040 or NY0100 series, the latter with sapphire crystal. The bezel action is much better, and the dial design more timeless. Flat crystal can be preserved with a round protector made of tempered glass or some film. The Mako would be appealing with a more minimalist and matte dial, no logo, better font, a brushed finish out of the box.

In 2020 I purchased mine on Amazon for a $120 including tax and shipping. I paid a total of $75 for a sapphire crystal and to have it installed. For under $200 I have a watch that I really love. It is very well made and while some people do not like the bracelet it does not bother me at all. Hollow end links have never bothered me. I know the class is stamped but because the bracelet is solid it is OK with me. It just goes to show you that you do not have to spend thousands or even several $100 for a fantastic watch. I have the exact same set up for the ray 2 in black. If you're thinking about buying the watch just go ahead and pull the trigger you will be happy you did.

Maybe you could tune your headline…”dive” watch? Is it a true dive watch or does it look like a dive watch? Automatic movement vs quartz…I find it hard to beat the Citizen Eco Drive Divers 200…A true “dive” watch. I do want to own an Orient someday. For an automatic dive watch, I love my Omega (albeit in a different price range)

Great upload. One of my absolute favorite watches in a stout collection is one of my first additions, a black Mako II that I modded with: coin edge bezel & jubilee brac (long island watch) blue AR sapphire dome & minimilist retro sapphire bezel insert (DLWwatches). Strong FF vibes, looks so fresh, so clean. With the sword hands and the Arabic Cardinals... Legible, classy, original. Actually kinda 👑 Milsub vibes, too, with (was unaware when modding). But it's neither; it is uniquely mine, a one-of-one that I still love to wear. My 1st automatic was a blue Mako II - Orient can really *nail* that sunburst blue (and grey). And the real BEAUTY of a Mako is that they are such an easy, care free wear. Like a Vostok, one is not constantly babying the wrists living in fear if songs and scratches fkn up a high-cost piece. EDIT: After watching, took a scotchbrite to my OG blue Mako II worn on NATO (blk/blu/gry) and it is looking D🔥PE, much more tool-ish, almost like a Pelagos FXD. TY for the suggestion! ⭐

Totally guys, they nailed it alright... I got my blue dial Mako II at only 130 bucks preloved, but it was babied n looked like new... Man, I lost count how many times the Electrifying sunbursts surprised me when the sun caught it at unexpected angles... 😁❤ This is THE watch that we can wear to the pool in the morning, have breakfast at the table in casual, go to a meeting at the office, lunch out with clients n even attend a dinner function at night. Totally dress up or down... 😉 N I like the heft of the original bracelets. It's so comfortable to wear that it's my daily... Over the rest ⌚💖🤗

Orient makes some really good stuff. Since Seiko has been trying to move upscale, Orient is still holding down the entry level diver market. However, my favorite Orient is still the OSD.

I have the same watch and you can thank me later for this suggestion…. Buy a white rubber strap and a red rubber strap. Put white on one side (buckle) and put the red on the other side (long). Now you have the BEST Fourth of July watch!!! You’re welcome.

Being a fanboy of Seiko, I bought SNK805 and SNKL38 for my 6.5 inch small wrist.. I love them.. but calibre isn't that great.. after gathering knowledge from KZbin channel, I bought Orient Kamasu green (dark teal IMO) and man , fell in love in two days with it.. better calibre, sapphire crystal, 200m diver's for a $200 watch.. and now Orient jusily killing it with their price and quality.. Seiko doesn't offer same for double the price

Totally agree, the Mako II is the best sub-200 diver together with the RAY II and the Kano. The Kano and RAY II look much better than the Mako II IMO. I've had several Mako II's, RAY II's, and one Kano, and they all ran within 3-6 Seconds fast per day, which is incredible. The FS6922 movement from Orient is one of the best movements on the market - at ANY pricepoint.

Orient is a great watch company without doubt....you have to see tge kamasu in dark green ...absolute stunner with those rectangular indices on the dial...great lume and bezel with great ratcheting sound......

Funny I just bought a Breitling Superocean 44mm like you showed but in black and stainless bracelet 😄. Loooove it, fell in love with the dial. However, im looking for an affordable diver with quartz that I can just set and forget and use when Im at the beach, working with my car, garden etc. A watch I wont care if it´ll get any scratches.. What do you rek? It should be: * A "basic" diver * WR 100m minimum * Sapphire crystal *42-45mm bezel * Max 300€ Let me know if you have any tips! 😃

@@kodoaok626 Both got new bracelets, kamasu got a jubilee and Casio got an oyster.I picked the Casio to wear as its a quartz and didn't have to set the time.The Kamasu is a much better looking watch though and fits better with the jubilee!

I love Orient watches and yet I only have one. I bought my Kamasu for its burgundy bezel and swapped out its awful black rubber dive strap for a black and red silicon sail cloth strap. I agree the Orient motif grows on you. I like your laid back style brother, a kind of intelligent hillbilly. Well done, keep it up.

Probably not. I just don’t see how that’s useful. I wear all of my watches and imagine my have a higher chance of getting knocked about. And testing 1 watch out hundreds or 1000’s isn’t really representative of overall quality.
