It seems that Caz was potentially the first one to be infected but he had somehow managed to keep it together throughout the entire game.

I dont know if it's morbid curiosity, but i would love to see a sequel/dlc where the "infection" actually managed to make it to the mainland.

It's not literally this, but... Phoenix Point is an X-com style strategy game in which the world is getting taken over by what amounts to eldritch monstrosity biomass. People were drawn into the sea then returned infected by a virus that mutated them into weird sea creature mutants.

While it would be cool it would defeat the whole moral of the story. About sacrificing yourself physically for the good (dying l) instead of for the bad (rennick and addair becoming monsters)

I think the biomass isnt natural but some sort of large cosmic entity I think this is true because Of the way the center Has bits of scrap floating around not to mention the erie glow it eminates and other things
