It was founded between the 8th and 7th centuries BC. by the Umbrians on a hill located on the left bank of the Tiber, about 400 meters above sea level and a short distance from the territory inhabited by the Etruscans, with the name of Tutere, which means "border town".
According to legend, initially the city was to have been built at the foot of the hill, on the left bank of the Tiber, but the tablecloth with which the founders were having breakfast was taken by an eagle who, flying, dropped it on the top of the hill.
This event was interpreted as a sign from the gods, so the founders decided to move and build the city on top of the hill................................................................................................................

In a way, this was quite a long walk as the town is rather big... lots and lots to see and stayed there the entire day to admire it. Loved Todi, nice atmospheres there. Hello Riccardo, tremendous good job as usual with also the masterwork of Santa Maria della Consolazione, a little apart from historic center of Todi, a true gem of Umbria and Italy. Near Todi too, the very nice town of Montefalco and frescoes of Gozzoli.

Thanks for this wonderful tour of Todi. I enjoyed the panoramic views, the walk at Via Melsungen with the trees and greenery along the path. The tour of the Painted House was quite interesting and the stunning architecture and interior of the Church of St. Maria della Consolazione was amazing.
