My mom was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when I was 14 around the time A Woman Under the Influence was released. When I saw the film, I wept for days. I felt my mom was validated through Gena's performance, it released such a heavy burden from the stigma my family endured surrounding mental illness. I will never forget how it helped me cope with the isolation and pain i felt as a teenager. Thank you Gena for your bravery and tremendous gift, you are missed...may you rest in eternal peace and love. ❤❤❤

She is a very special woman and a superb actress. How lucky it was that she and John Cassavetes met, they were so compatible - two remarkable people joining forces. He died too young but has left her with so many memories and gifts to treasure. A fascinating and moving interview - thanks for sharing!

I was waiting for her to tear up after reading her comment. I didn't see any tear anywhere. Her right eye appears to be moist but it's just her low eye liner which makes it look as if it's gaping. She simply has shiny eyes. She held strong. Held it together.

Gena Rowlands is such an INCREDIBLE actress; an equal match for John's incredible movies, writing, & acting! I've always loved them. I was living in Los Angeles when "Woman Under The Influence" opened. How Gena Rowlands did not win an Oscar for that performance is beyond comprehension.

this was clearly in the 90s so she was probably in her 60s here. look at the big screen tv (left side of screen at some point early-mid interview sorry don’t feel like looking up timestamps) during the sit down interview and her platform sandals (popular then) at the end on the stairs. and her children were grown (she already had one grandchild from her second child) and she said her youngest was born in 1970. so. if you were speaking of woman under the influence, then, yes, that was 70s
@155gerard Жыл бұрын
@@sergiowasko6805 Not 1977 but also not recent. Probably around 25 years ago, perhaps 1999ish, when Gena was late 60s. John passed away in 1989.
