also helps a whoooole lot to be on the bridge pickup, since it tends to pick the vibrations while they're still towards the base whereas the neck will pick up dead spots in the string, especially if you're doing harmonics there

I've always wanted to learn this! Thank you for taking the time to explain how it's done. 🎸
@surpk13 жыл бұрын
You gave a really good piece of advice when you said two things one was the harmonic is enhanced because obviously it ALWAYS exists when any sound is enunciated in some way(we just don't "notice?!?" it), when you allow skin(for you it is the thumb underside - that is to say in it's form available the most easily) to touch the string after it is plucked with the pick(probably works with upstrokes as well(I'll let you know). Direction is un important as you can face the pick the other way(turned towards the neck for the follow through). Second and most important is that in someway you must allow the string to ring out as soon as the harmonic is enhanced basically dancing with the hand on the string and as a subset of this understanding you pointed out that it can be done with very, very little force and probably works better at first(at least to allow the harmonic to sing), with a extremely light touch. Now this is just like a singing bowl and EVERY musician should have a good one to remind them of what sound is all about. That's enough sorry it's so convoluted but it's rather complicated . The next step is to understand why the pitch changes so dramatically when you do chromatic runs with all four fingers(in other words how does the harmonic series come into play).

I still haven't seen any videos of anyone doing it on the upstroke like I do. Same exact technique (turn the pick ~70-90 degrees), just on the upstroke, just felt more comfortable that way, so much in fact that I think I've unlearned how to do it with down strokes XD I'm just mystified by how it seems like NOBODY does it my way, even though statistically it feels like most people must have tried at some point :|

Was just wondering about that if it's possible in upstroke too, thanks dude!

And honestly I find it much easier too now that I tried it 😅😂
