Wow. I just flashed back 30+ years. Undergrad. Sting still had hair for my sake. Branford and Herbie look so young! Anticipating the 90s... They could do no wrong...The music was Amazing and Meaningful...We could do no wrong...Where'd it all go...Waxing nostalgic, again...

Sting getting with Brandford was everything. Just listen to Blue Turtle and Nothing like The Sun. I love to see this caliber of musicians like Herbie are friends and partners.

Just seeing this video for the first time after someone mentioned VInx to me today (haven't heard his name in 30 years) so I went searching for old Sting. We had an amazing run from 1985 up until 1990 with Sting. Dream and Nothing are perfection. Soul Cages is fine and important too (but I prefer Omar, Manu, Branford, Kenny, and the rest), but those first two solo albums...there is nothing like them. Those three albums form a Trinity of inspiration and creativity.

This was filmed pre-show at the USF Sun Dome, Tampa, FL, January 20, 1988. I wasn't at this show but saw him in the same arena on the TST tour on February 17, 1994 with Melissa Etheridge opening.

Those were three of the coolest cats in the music world at the time. Great point about the genius of the modulation in Sister Moon from Hancock, too.

This show was sick --saw it at James l knight center in Miami -dedicated fragile to Jaco -nice -no lie sting took off his shirt -about 10 rows of women levitated toward the stage -lol- music and mix were beyond -a beautiful moment in time - thanks sting- killer little wing guitar solo as well
@Auntkekebaby2 жыл бұрын
10 rows?! Damn. Take me back in time. I would have been right in front. Herbie did say that he loved going to Sting shows because of all the women.

Sister moon Sister moon will be my guide In your blue blue shadows I would hide All good people asleep tonight I'm all by myself in your silver light I would gaze at your face the whole night through I'd go out of my mind but for you I'd go out of my mind but for you Lying in a mother's arms The primal root of a woman's charms I'm a stranger to the sun My eyes are too weak How cold is a heart When it's warmth that he seeks? You watch every night, you don't care what I do I'd go out of my mind, but for you I'd go out of my mind, but for you My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun My hunger for her explains everything I've done To howl at the moon the whole night through And they really don't care if I do I'd go out of my mind for you Sister moon

Don’t be a stereotypical jazz elitist. There’s no contention between any of them cause they like and appreciate each other’s music...it’s why they agreed to be there together on camera. They respect each other. Meanwhile they enjoy their lives any you have to reduce this musical moment to some piddling competition. Free your mind.

@@andybaldman Anyone? I've met people who don't even like music. Any music! I asked one such guy what music sounded like to him. He said: "To me, it's like the sound of sheet metal crashing onto the ground." So, music is not for everyone. Not everyone can even become a musician and have a shoe in each ear.
