I hope most of you out there will have heard Sting - along with guitarist Dominic Miller - in an hour-long conversation with the irrepressible Rick Beato. A GREAT interview. You can learn a lot from STing - and maybe even more from Beato.

All of my ears, if I had more I’d use them 😉 are always eager to hear Sting’s views and opinions. I selfishly hope, as I attempt to play keyboards, that he renews his musical collaborations with Jason Rebello. 🙏. I could name quite a few examples from former partnerships but one that recently stands out for me is the beautiful works these two make together on Windmills Of Your Mind. 😇😇🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

I've certainly learned a lot from Dominic Miller. In my opinion a great musician and guitarist, and a genuinely nice person, totally free of ego and self-promotion - a rare quality in today's music scene.

My initial thoughts about Sting, going back many decades, was that he was aloof. I am so glad that the many video interviews and musical education seminars have proven quite the contrary, that he is opened to sharing his life and thoughts about music unveiled and without pretension. 🙏

I love when artists get older and start to reflect more deeply on their life, their career and the meaning of life and the message they want to express through their art. thank you Sting for sharing this intimate aproaching to you and your music.

Firstly I’d like to say that Sting is the most gifted, proficient songwriter of our times. His songs paint indelible visions about life for all to appreciate. His mastery of the English language is Shakespearian. His melodies and tonal awareness are Bachian. It’s no wonder he’ll practice not only his scales, but the music of Bach as well. But when he used the word ‘surreal’ to describe his childhood it shook me. 😳 I’ve used that word with a completely different association of the time I had living in Munich Germany. A time that was so enravishing for me that I’d often say to myself, pinch me so I know it’s real. Maybe that’s why it’s felt that his lyrics can be interpreted on many different levels. Carry on Maestro 👏👏👏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

We sang this at my school in Abingdon written by Mrs Kitching- remember this Stephen Pegrum ?

"Talking about music is strange... it's a little bit like smelling sculpture." Reminds me of a quote from another great bass player, Mike Watt (I don't know that it originated with him, but he's the person I heard say it): "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture."

My parents were both folk dancers and musicians and singers. I placed all my formative years learning clarinet mostly and sax in jazz band until in high school I heard The Police and added guitar and bass to the mix. My father had a variety band that performed about twice a month. His day job was NASA engineer in Houston. You can imagine how thrilled I was that the Police filmed a music video for Walking on the Moon at the JSC complex. In the end, it is a simple folk song with a reggae beat and a bass line that rocks. Beds Too Big Without You also struck me as another brilliant example of style-blending. In the 80s the airwaves were dominated by synthesizer pop and heavy metal and sorely needed a refreshing sound and Sting's instincts duly delivered the melodies and the positive spring in our step leading us in the direction of resolving the conflicts and circumstances before us. My wife and I began a school by a river in Japan and not long after our honeymoon she discovered the arrow of time, 935-QKK. The story of the discovery is a nice read and highly inspired by Sting's music and lyrics.

"...the most important thing on a record, is to hear a voice!" ... And it s this absolutly unique and magical voice of this very special man! When i was younger i thought it was the voice with the most sexappeal in it (next to the voice of Robert Plant ;-), but now a days i find this voice (that not did change very much in all this years), sooo deep touching my heart, that i allways when i listen it, ask my self: what is it, why is it so special?? and the only answer i get, is: it´s magic!

Seems he's constantly looking for a "bridge" from the blank page to the finished song, and just past each finished song is another blank page. Another bridge to build.....from the anxiety of the blank page to the joy of the finished song. And we're all the beneficiaries.
