I’m on a 110liter normally. Yesterday I tried a 75 liter. I’m 85 kg. It was a major struggle to get going on this board!! Fortunately I had already watched your video 3x in preparation for this day! Your method was the only thing that worked. Thank you brother!!

Tried it today instead of my regular Stinkbug start and it works great esp for board that sinks or have tails that sink like my GoFoils 60L. One big advantage is when the wind drop or going to the wind line, you can just stay prone and it get you moving across the wind without having to spend any energy.

Hi, seems like you were on Lake Piru. I am moving to Santa Clarita end of this year. And I had been thinking what would be a good spot for Winging. Castaic seems closest, but the Lower Lagoon is too small, and Upper Lagoon is not allowed during weekends for Wind Sports (i called up and checked with them). Lake Piru seems the next closest, but I had been reading that board activities were banned at the lake after the Naya Rivera incident. Is that not so? Is the Lake open all week and all seasons for recreational board sports? Also, how suitable would you say Lake Piru is for learning to Wing Foil (in terms of Wind Direction and all that). Your information will be greatly appreciated.

Thks great explanation. However how about when the wing has landed on the other side and you need to flip it first. I believe you need to be in the knee position to do the flip.
@wingmanfoilclub
@wingmanfoilclub 7 ай бұрын
No you can flip the wing in the water. Just move your hands to the wingtip and flip the wing from there while treading water. Otherwise you can sit on the board while straddling it. It’s not possible to balance on your knees on a small board.

I am in la ventana switching to 85 liter from 105, weight 191 to 200.. doing really well on it, but in big waves I find it pretty challenging to get back to standing position occasionally. You mentioned something about waves or no waves.. is this a good method to start working on in larger wind generated waves? I have only been out one day w this board so i think it might be just getting used to it.. but not sure.
@wingmanfoilclub
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
It’s harder in waves than flat water, but yes. On a small board this is absolutely one of the best ways to get going in waves. When you do it correctly, it’s really the wing and wind power getting you to your feet. So as long as there is wind you can start in any size waves. The only other option would be the straddle start, but it’s tough for us bigger riders and on wider boards. Edit to add: the first time trying the stink bug it might help to go out when the wind is lighter just to get a feel for it, but after 1 or 2 sessions you’ll never go back to the old method on a small board.

@@AkSeapilot yeah let me know. There will be times where you get tossed around but most of the time I can be back up and riding in literally seconds. Just take a deep breath and lay on the board for a few seconds if you’re struggling to relax before trying again.

"a mid sized wingboard that is too big to sinker start and too big to sinker start"?
@wingmanfoilclub
@wingmanfoilclub Жыл бұрын
If a board is very small, you can start it underwater (with the sinker start). If a board is big, you can start it the “normal” way. But if a board is in the middle size it becomes very unstable to try and start but too big to sink underwater. For example if you are 90 kilos and the board is 75L. You will not be able to balance on the board because it will be very unstable as it tries to sink but bounces back up to the surface. That is when the stink bug start is very helpful.
