Pointillism is a style, and stippling is a technique. Stippling means you're tapping the tool you're using against the surface fairly quickly. If you're using a pen, it'll create dots. If you're using a brush and paint, it might create dots or a streak free, heavily (and evenly) covered surface. Pointillism is a style where the entire picture is created with dots and no blending or strokes, and the illusion of lines and gradients is created by placing the dots closer together or farther apart. That is to say, you're doing drawings in the pointillism style with the stippling technique :)
@sixmercer25043 жыл бұрын
That was awesome! Seriously, that totally taught me something I had no idea was a thing. I knew what stipple was. That was the extent of it. But I only knew of it being dots. I knew nothing about it in the painting sense. So do you mean like Ralph Steadman's style of ink art is a form of stippling in the painting world, that kind of thing?
@ronvavra Жыл бұрын
Well, not exactly. Stippling simply means drawing using dots. Pointillism is the creation of a painting using dots of color that, combined, create the illusion of certain colors in exactly the same way as pixels do.

You've inspired me to do my own stipple drawing tonight Peter. Thank you ! I love how your drawing turned out, I watched the video twice.

I love your stippling, Peter. When I do it, I have to force myself to keep from placing them uniformly like in patterns. And when I force randomness, it still looks nonrandom. Yours are always beautiful, of course. Thank you.
