So wonderful. It lead me to you. Geez,...I've got a lot of video viewing to catch up on now!!! Thx. I love the work you ladies do Slow Stitching. I've been sewing since 7th grade. Had to look up "Slow Stitching". 60 yrs ago, we just called it "sewing (by hand)"!! Haha! I'm very excited to find you all and see your beautiful projects. Thanks. You ALL are INSPIRING!!! I think I’ve said this before, but you and I are sisters from different mothers sharing the same soul DNA. That spark test you mentioned pretty much sums it all up. We are on a quest for finding truth and beauty in everything that surrounds us. Your passion for taking these tiny scraps of fabric and making beautiful things out of them is just that. Same with the journals. The fact that you don’t have much to “write” or “say” about your “boring” life is not that you don’t have anything important to say or write. It’s because your “words” are the products of your handwork. What you create is what you “write”. Your life is not boring, your life is probably less exciting than the time you spend in silence making things. And that time spent in your studio is the most exciting thing for you and for your 1900 subscribers. If I had to describe my life to you you would most likely count your blessings and thank God it is not as boring as mine. But for me there is nothing more important than to sit and create something beautiful that a couple of hours ago did not exist and nobody had ever seen. I, too, am on a constant quest for learning new things and I jump from one thing to another more often than I should. That is the “gift” we are meant to bear and carry on our shoulders for the duration of our lives. It is a blessing and a curse, depending how you want to look at it. Nevertheless it is the single most important thing that sets us apart from the rest of the world that stagnates and never moves out of their comfort zone. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed watching and listening to you. Your daughter is right. You need to keep doing these videos. They are documenting history. They are the best memoirs you could ever “write”.

Here I sit with cancer working on an art rug hooking listening to your great stories and watching you create an talk. I don’t understand why people that create wonderful things in their videos play music and speed their videos of their creative process. I so appreciate your going with the flow taking your time. Your book covers are gorgeous ! I am grateful for you sharing all the treasures that you found like the classes. You are blessing so many! Do not worry about negative feedback because it has nothing to do with you. It’s all about the person and their lack of gratitude. They are blind to gifts that you are giving. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and keeping me company in my home while I go through my treatments. You are a gift and never forget it. God bless you! 🙌🏻❤️ As far as feeling like your work is meaningless just know that it could be an heirloom treasured by a family member for all of eternity. I would love anything that you make! Hi Melanie, I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts as you worked. I've introspected on many of the things you mentioned as well, particularly about your reasons to continue making KZbin videos and about the pointlessness of what I make...lol...For me, In a way, doing KZbin videos gives me a reason, or more likely an "excuse" to craft. My life has been so busy for so long that I really have not made much time for crafting unless there was a "reason" usually taking the form of a request from my family such as making Halloween costumes, etc. Since I have begun crafting more regularly, I sometimes share some creations that I'm particularly proud of with my family. Then, I usually get the blank confused expression followed by "What is it?" or "What are you going to do with it" 😆 and I never quite know how to answer that...LOL Finding this KZbin community of artists/crafters has made me feel much less lonely in my creative pursuits. I'm so glad you will continue to make videos. Although I don't comment much, yours is one of the channels that I watch just as soon as I am able once I get that notification 😊.

Spot on, Maria! I need to share some inspiration I got not long after making that video - I think it really helped. (Adding that to my to-do list.) I'd never really thought about creating simply to connect with others - that's a beautiful thought! You know what I've noticed when I show my journals to people? Some people turn multiple pages at once; they'll grab and flip three or four pages together at a time. Other people turn each page individually. I've decided that the second group are the ones that get it. They are much more likely to take the time to notice the details. Thank you for commenting!
@lornamikkelson56904 жыл бұрын
Melanie...your ending comment brought tears to my eyes. I show people my months of detailed work on my journals and they flip through it so fast and come back with a response of "to me this looks like someone has alot of time on her hands, now what ya going to do with it". That's when the heart hurts and I dont know if I should move on. I enjoyed this video and am inspired.

This is my first view of your channel and you are captivating... I love your reflection at about 33 minutes when you talked about the legacy aspects of posting your videos for your children and grandchildren... this is one of the most compelling reasons I can imagine to start a channel. How I wish I could have videos of my grandmother ‘trying’ to teach me to tat. Thanks for sparking some wonderful memories. The community aspect of ‘making’ is a treasure and I feel so fortunate that there are folks like you helping us get through this trying time - especially those of us that have to stay isolated for medical and aging reasons.

I’ve just found your channel and I’m going to do the Itty Bitty course, I knew there was a reason for keeping everything! I think that it’s interesting that you think you have nothing to say. The world seems too full these days of people who have too much to say while having nothing true to add to what’s already been said! There is a need for silence. I think that’s where we grow. That’s where we truly learn, for the first time, who we truly are. It’s where we find that truth that we can live by. That’s what happened to me as I withdrew from the noise. Now here I am at a place I was intended to arrive at. Thank you.

I've purchased four of Kelli's classes, but if I had to choose one to recommend, it would probably be the "Slow Stitched Journals" class. The "Journaling Layers 1" class is great too and most of it is spent working on layered journal pages (interior pages).

I LOVE crazy quilts and this totally feels like a much less formal and structured version of crazy quilting. I do have some fabric pages I've been working on (for a few years) that would be great in these soft covers!

Me to use tapestry needle it's a little bit harder but it has no point on that I've now I've done that to my thumb a lot and I got tired of it so I started using a needle with no sharp point on it it's a little harder too so but it does work 🛸🗽🗿🎠
