This pattern is from www.ColourWerx.com
For this technique I used a cut away stabilizer as the base and did the stitch-n-flip piecing with strips cut approximately 1.5 - 2.5" wide. After the strips are pieced on I did a stitch on the design line that was a 1.5 stitch length. I then cut out the design just past that stitching line. Use Roxanne's Glue Baste-it to secure the dogs to the background then appli-quilt them down onto the quilt top that has already been basted with the batting and backing. I use Warm and Natural batting.

A suggestion to help avoid burning thins with your little clover iron, is to use a coffee mud as a stand for it. Mugs are heat proof theyare just the right size for those mini irons.

Just what I was needing. I was looking for a better way to make a butterfly for my apples and worms quilt. Now, all I have to do is make a line drawing for the butterfly and use my scraps. This is a wonderful idea. Plus, it is also a great was to use up more of my scraps. Thank you.

Of course the cat would lead the way!! LOL Love your technique! Love your black and white background fabrics! I'm crazy about your cat!!! A cheap glue stick would work nice too for tacking applique in place.Your teaching technique is wonderful. It gets the message across and moves along at a good pace.You have inspired me to do this as a cat quilt and not just file the idea away for someday that never comes.

When doing paper piecing or doing applique like you are doing I like to use 'tear and wash' stabilizer. It's nice and firm to work with but when laundered in turns into a nice soft thin batting. Love it. I buy mine from Allstitch

I love this method! I hate using heat and bond lite and after fusing, it starts wrinkling or coming unstuck. It looks so messy on my large appliqués. I wish I had seen this before attaching my appliqué shapes on my recent project. I also like that you used straight stitching on the edges. Trying to keep my blanket stitch looking neat is very hard for me. ThankYou sew much for this video!

I would use Wash Away Applique Sheets that way I can print out my design, stitch it like you did and once washed most of it would be gone
@lizday8140
@lizday8140 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure Nancy got fine results, too, but I was thinking the same thing. The typical instructions for the Cut Away type is to cut away that type of stabilizer close to the stitching once stitched. I have used the Wash Away (water soluble) type in the past with great success, and it yields a much softer fabric, once washed.
@mariannehovad798
@mariannehovad798 3 жыл бұрын
@@lizday8140 also if you cut out the shape before you start sewing the strips down you then have the option of trimming away excess fabric 1/4 away from the shape and turning the edges so you get applique that doesn't fray.
@georgiaatthelake8142
