I use the Golden GAC 900 on all of my fabric surface designed pieces that I don't paint with Setacolor or other fabric paint/dye. I find it very effective and is my favorite fabric medium. I also love to be able to use all my "non-fabric-friendly" colour media (like Inktense/watercolour/dry pastels etc) on fabric with the use of the fabric medium. I also like to make sure every piece of painted fabric I make is going to be washable bec the pieces end up in all kinds of different projects. Some will probably be washed, some might be washed, some probably won't be washed, but you never know and I to like to be able to give or sell them with confidence that the colours will stay put if/when washed. V interesting the Distress Oxide still bled a bit when washed. Thanks for taking the time to do and share this experiment.

After watching this video I immediately ordered this product. I'm going to experiment to the max. I've been obsessed with making my own clothing labels but I didn't want a hundred all the same. I needed the solution to be able to make each label exclusive to each garment. Why, I ask, must they all be identical? Recognition, yes, but they will have plenty of that. I can't thank you enough for this experiment. This broadens possibilities so much in regard to colors, ink, paint, etc. ❤

Seeing your results with the Gelatos was really surprising! I’ve used GAC 900 for years but never considered the Gelatos since they seem so unstable on fabric. I have a lot of them just sitting around. I’m going to give them a try on Gel plate! Thanks so much for this video!

That’s fantastic! Golden should hire you. I searched and watched their less-than-30-second video on GAC 900 and was flabbergasted at how little they had to offer on it! Your video is so informative. Thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the process, and for describing the different inks. I've learned a lot. I've used water color pencils and an inexpensive fabric medium in the past and was excited how they turned out. This video really encourages me to try the other types of coloring methods with somewhat a more sure feeling as to what I'm doing.

Goodness, I love your videos, they answer so many of the questions that I’m looking for right now! A little idea about the smoking GAC 900, two hours may not have been enough dry time. I always let any painting that I use with textile medium to dry for at least 24 hours.

Julia what a fabulous experiment and how useful for us all. One of the concerns I have is always 'will the colour disappear once washed' - well you have certainly proven the point. I really enjoyed this post Julia thank you so much. Can you use with watercolor? What about watercolor pencils. I have these, but Is there a medium I should buy that works best? I love the way you add stamping & painting with fabric. I like free motion and have done different methods of applique, but this just adds so much....can’t wait to play! Thank you🥰

Hi Linda, I love using watercolor on fabric! I have had good results but always test first. I use the Golden GAC medium but other brands would also work. I also always heat set it. The watercolor is very staining, it may fade slightly in the wash but I love the look. Here is another video that I did using watercolor on fabric:kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXaTkJSBeMyeo6M Have fun! Julia

Hi, I don't think synthetics would work. The fibers need to be absorbent. Thanks for watching. Julia

If this medium is heat activated you wouldn't be able to work with synthetic fabrics as they would melt or burn

This was really helpful, thank you. I'm venturing into doing more fabric painting and trial and errors. Never thought about Gelatos, I have plenty! Now...how about painting on DARK fabrics... this would really change the usage of these various paints. Unless you paint a dark fabric WHITE, it won't show as well. Something to consider for a video test run??? Thanks, Juliana
@stitchesbyjulia5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Agreed. Darker fabrics are trickier. The paint must be opaque. I usually use acrylic paint with the fabric medium. Laying down a matte white paint first works but it sometimes changes the feel of the fabric. It takes a lot if trial and error. Thanks for watching, Julia

Might want to try ironing freezer paper to the back of your T-shirt front, if you know what I mean, to stiffen it. That’s what I do with stretchy fabric. And then let it dry for just maybe an hour and peel off the freezer paper and let it dry for 24 hours before you iron it to set it.

Hi Marian, The first fabric medium that I ever had was made by Plaid. I couldn't find it when I went to replace it and someone recommended the Golden. If you are happy with the one you are using-stick with it. Some also use Aloe Vera but I haven't tried it. Happy creating. Julia

Was the fabric hand different between the washed vs. unwashed? It would be interesting to compare a washed swatch that didn’t use the medium vs one that did.
@stitchesbyjulia7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes I thought the same- I will do more experimenting with medium vs. without. I felt the acrylic paint was stiff on both samples however I used really cheap craft paint. I'm not sure if that would make a differences. The others were soft on both samples.

Thank you for your tutorial. I am wondering what makes differences with Golden CAG900 Fabric Medium 100, 200, or 800? 900 seems to work really well as you have shown us. But will the other ones work as well as 900?

Hi Julia, I kept trying to get a glimpse of your cuff. I assume it's one you needle felted on your embellisher. Now, you've removed it! Question: Did you embroider beads on to it?

Hi Phyllis, I had to rematch the video to see what cuff I was wearing HaHa! This one I made from a thrifted leather belt.
