Whoa, whoa, whoa there! Mind blown! So a friend taught me to stitch (in hand) over twenty years ago and I picked it back up after watching you guys BUT she never showed me this! I always go over and under and have to reach under the fabric for each stitch. Mind blown!

Thank you for the great video! I have always used a hoop or scroll frame and struggled with trying to hold them and never found a stand that I liked. I am now convinced that stitching in hand is the way to go...I tried it on some scrap cloth and love it! Thanx!

That’s exactly how I do the sewing method and have never seen anyone else stitch from corner to corner like I do...I feel so much better! A lot of the videos I’ve seen take a stitch straight up and down and I just couldn’t get the hang of that so I just started making the cross and it works for me. I do go from bottom right to upper left first but it’s still the same technique! Thanks for confirming that what I was doing was ‘normal’!

THANK YOU! I use a Q-Snap but want to learn. I’m also a ‘fuss-budget’ and my backs are great, according to what my Mom said as I showed her my first piece. That was such high praise for me as a young stitcher. So I guess I’ve continued. BUT, I’m 76 and have more patterns than I will ever have time to complete! But bending a little and learning how to be not so rigid in my stitching. The both of you look like you’re having more fun and enjoyment than I am. You can do this with q snaps as well,i do it sometimes depending on the size of the project i'm working on.Just leave your fabric a little loose in the snaps.

I'm so glad you guys showed it this way- because I had tried it so many times- with no luck.. I stitch one x at a time- and nobody ever really showed it done- that way..... Thanks so much! I stitch my X's going the opposite way...going from the right hand corner of the square to the upper left, then my cross over thread is from the left lower corner going to the right. I didn't realize I was stitching the opposite of everyone else until I saw a diagram on FB...LOL! I have tried to correct it but after almost 35 years of stitching...it's a hard habit to break! Love watching stitchers stitch!

Thank you for taking the time to show how to stitch in hand. I learned awhile back from a stitcher in Russia. I don’t speak Russian so I had to just watch and study her movements. I got it down. It was very kind of you to explain what you were doing and how. The technique I use is only a little different but nothing that makes a difference in the result.

Wow, you can stitch much faster your way of stitching in hand. I stitch with a q-snap and i have to poke and stab which i now see is a much slower way of stitching. Thanks for the tutorial. I find it interesting to see how others stitch. As you said, whatever works for the stitcher is okay. You both run you needle horizintally, whereas I run it vertically. I use the sewing method and stitch in hand for Monaco and Aida. I stitch in a Qsnap or hoop when using linen. I use different types of fabric depending up the "formality" of the piece. In the 1960's my great-aunt taught me to cross stitch on stamped table linens where you had to have the back very neat because someone might turn the placemat or napkin over and see it. When my sister got me into counted cross stitch in the 1980's, I continued to stitch the way my aunt had taught me keeping the back as neat as possible.

Thank you ❤️ for showing your stitching I slowed the speed down to get a good look - do you wash all your Monaco first before you use it? - I bought 28 Charles Craft Monaco going to give it a try - I bought Monaco from someone on etsy but it didn’t look like this material it looked like a tighter fabric so I sent it back wasn’t ready to tackle that 🤪

I am just learning the "sewing" method of stitching and I love it! So much faster and I'm able to maintain a decent tension throughout. Priscilla, I was absolutely floored when I saw your ring! Thanks so much for showing this! I use a spring hoop as I need my fabric taut & have done the sewing method with my needle vertically but only on Aida. I find my finger gets too sore on evenweave & thimbles drive me crazy. I'm gonna try this at least on some small pieces as the sewing method is definitely quicker & now I see how you get so much completed!! :)

Oh really. Wow. I will have to watch it again. I stitch vertically too to bottom needle in fabric to right of the block to make the bottom cross / then top to bottom on left side of the block to make the top cross \. Hope that makes sense and I work left to right. That is how I was taught. My second piece was a large pieces by Paula Vaughan on linen. Still one of my favorites.
