Hi Rachel thanks for another lovely podcast. Here's a tip for your half square triangles where you only need to sew one line of stitching but are left with a sizeable triangle of waste. Sew on the line as per pattern instructions then sew another line half an inch away. Then when you cut between the stitching lines you have your block plus another smaller half square triangle block already sewn for another project 😁
@jennywinn32307 ай бұрын
I was going to suggest the same. I follow another you tube quilter and she does this all the time.
@stitchwithrachel7 ай бұрын
I should have done this! Especially now that I have a bowl full of unsewn half squares. I've only ever done 2 at a time so I was worried I'd make them too small doing it that way but I wouldn't if i did the centre line correctly. Thank you, I know for next time 💖

@@stitchwithrachel hind sight is a wonderful thing but you can just enjoy the beautiful quilt you're making now, for now. It's gorgeous. You must be so pleased with how it's coming along. I've bought the Alice's Wonderland sampler quilt book after watching your video & I can't wait to get to the Quilt Festival & buy some liberty fabric to get started. I also bought the scant quarter inch ruler too to help with my seam allowance. My blocks usually come out a bit smaller than they're supposed to. Hopefully this will help. Love your channel. Helping each other out is what it's all about. ❤️

The clover thread cutter is great it has a dial from 1-12 that when the blade gets dull you turn it to the next number so you use the whole blade. I like to sew a second seam on my HSTs before I cut them so I don’t stretch the bias seam before I get around to sewing them. For blocks like a snowball or square in a square sew just on the corner side of the line rather than right on the line to account for the thread and fold in the fabric. It really helps. I got that tip from Donna Jordan of Jordan fabrics. With scraps you have to decide what the smallest size you’ll actually use is. I donate my too small scraps to the local primary school for craft. Your quilt looks great so far

I do get distracted so easily! I have started the Alice wonderland sampler, now I want to start this quilt as well! I also often cut wrong, so I always buy extra fabric, any leftovers go into my stash! I try and try and still things at times don’t work out, but in the end it all comes together into something beautiful! Thanks again for you delightful video and bubbly personality!🇨🇦

Hi Rachel, I've just found your channel and what a wonderful breath of fresh air you are. I follow Alice on social media, so i have seen the adverts for this sew a long and thought it may be too much to start now with all the other bits us sewers always seem to have on the go. Thank you so much for sharing this journey is indeed an exquisite quilt. No wonder you look at it, so dreamy eyed 😊 I made a Liberty Quilting Fabric quilt last month for my dear friends 60th using the Wonky Star Block. Im so thrilled with it. It's just a lap quilt for her evenings under the stars, when she's sat outside her campervan Dave! 😂 I hope the love sewn into it keeps her cosy, safe and secure. Thanks once again, and good luck. Alison ❤❤xx

If you put a little 3M Command hook on your little square up ruler, it will be easier to hold AND keep your fingers safely out of the way (you can get some tiny clear ones and/or keep it slight off the middle so you can still use your middle line-up markings)… PLUS if you put some template grippy dots on the back of the square ruler, it won’t shift around either 🤗🤗🤗 I’ve done that with most of my small 2-5” square rulers and find it helpful 🤗
@sheilamiller10027 ай бұрын
I know someone else has mentioned the tip. When you have chain pieced your half square triangles, sew them all again a half inch away from the previous sewing line and cut between the two. Then you will have perfect bonus smaller half square triangles to use on another project. I love your videos. Thankyou

Rachel, before cutting off the waste triangle, move out a little and sew another line to secure the long side of the triangle. Then cut between the two lines of stitching. That will secure the edge of the triangle to use it again. No stretching out of shape.

Hi Rachel, joining you for the first time !! Really loving your work. I wonder if you would take a bit of advice from someone who took needlework OLevel 45 years ago !!! 😂 If you press your seems open before pressing to the side they will look much sharper and it helps accuracy too. Just be careful not to stretch fabric when seam is on the bias. Plonk iron down straight rather than pushing it across seam to prevent stretching. I rarely offer advice unless asked but your work is so good I have risked offending you to make it even better. Happy sewing ! Xx
