In my opinion, Gukesh, ought to to be taking a break instead of competing. After winning the candidate's tournament and the right to challenge for the WCC title and enduring all of the celebration activities, Gukesh would be well served to take a vacation for a month and then he can focus on chess with full energy.

TBH, Gukesh is significantly weaker (in regard to absolute top players) in rapid than he is in Classical. Even in the team tournament a few years ago he was getting smoked almost every game. He for sure is tired because of candidates but in rapid for some reason he just isn't that strong in this format (compared to other elite level players).

@@justinchance-squires115 Gukesh himself as agreed that he is not as strong in shorter time formats. And everyone is aware of this. He literally doesn't play online chess at all, and was constantly playing otb classical tournaments since the pandemic. He basically focused all his energy into classical chess, meanwhile all the other youngsters kept a balance sort of.

@@arcaneben9171 Makes sense. There are Pros and Cons to this. Obviously the con is that he simply isn't that good in rapid (although he is still pretty decent in blitz), and the Pros are that he is really good in classical and now has the opportunity to become classical world champion.

@@justinchance-squires115 exactly, and if you see classical is all that matters, after all, it's not called classical world champion, it's called world chess champion. Rapid and Blitz champions are often forgotten and not considered amongst the greatest players, but the world chess champions stand out instantly. Also it's quite natural for him to improve on shorter time formats eventually, once he's got that intuition which would come from experience which would come from classical chess, while the same wouldn't be able to say for other youngsters except a few. Candidates is by far the most difficult chess tournament to win in the world.

Wei Yi is getting into his stride, unlike Ding, who seems to be finished.

Too early to tell. Ding may be merely exhausted emotionally. When the necessity arises again, he may do much better. Gukesh may not handle Ding well.

In my opinion, it is time to include the top female players in these competitions. Ju Wenjun and other female players are ready to face top level chess players in order to compete for the right to play in the open candidate's tournament.

Let them at least reach 2700 first.. otherwise how would it truly be the open section if they're being partial towards women?
@brianwoods9266
@brianwoods9266 9 ай бұрын
@@shanks1847 The only way that the female players will reach 2700 is if they play 2700 level players. Ju Wenjun rated at 2590 has recently defeated two 2700 players. One might say that Wenjun is underrated because she has mostly played versus female competition which is mostly rated at 2500 or lower.

@shanks1847 9 ай бұрын
@@brianwoods9266 yes but male 2600s don't get invitations to super gm tournaments so that they can reach 2700. They have to play open tournaments for that and no one is stopping female players from doing that. I'm just saying that the process needs to be the same for everyone in the open section

There's more money in female events so women do not play open and reach the rating necessary to attend them

@@shanks1847I agree. I feel like it would also be disrespectful to the top female GMs to give them "special" treatment. It would also take away from the accomplishment of Judith Polgar
