This video is gold!!!! I have an online rating of roughly 1800 and I have always struggled to come up with constructive plans against the Caro-Kann. I just got it in two blitz games and literally CRUSHED Black in the mainline with the g4 advance, letting him fork my rooks but getting a mating attack in return. THANK YOU!!!!!

Mainline caro is doodoo. But I played the caro initially cuz there are no real tricks against it and you are safe from checks with the pawn on c6. But it's time to learn c5 eventually, I just went for caro lines with early c5, but eventually will need the Sicilian if I wanna get real good, but I don't,

Really? The guy says "after black's 2nd move we already know what the opening is going to be.." But black could play d6 instead of d5 and transpose to a Philidor or a Pirc.
@morcombewise7208 жыл бұрын
In your line, +JavierQuiroz, what was Black's _2nd move_, (which is the position to which the quote applies)? In this opening, Black has _already played_ 2...d5, so both 3...d6 and 3...d5 are impossible. And if he plays 2...d6, then the game isn't in this lecture. Maybe he should have said "After Black's 2nd move _as played in the game_," but that extra phrase would get pretty annoying if he had to say it after every reference to a move, just to avoid confusing _you_.

At 34:34, why not Qc2 to defend and then Bxh6? I thought the point of sacrificing was to clear up defense from the king. Bxh6 would make White's h pawn an extra threat. This way, Black doesn't have time for Re8 and Bf8 to defend h6. Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their wisdom. Also, great lecture as always. This KZbin channel is a gold mine.

You mentioned the fact that chess engines tend to sac everything and the kitchen sink before an imminent mate, and this seems to mystify you at times. Its just that the engines try to make the game last as long as possible. That's the way the majority of them are programmed. There are a few engines out there that will offer to resign in hopeless positions [Lucas Chess has several], but they are few and far between.

At 41:00, when black plays f6, instead of retreating our bishop to f4 weakening our attack, why can't we ignore the threat and proceed with QG2? If he takes fxg5, then we play Qxg5, which threatens Qg8 mate. There is no way for black to defend this, because after 28. Qxf6+ Kh7 29. Qg6+ Kh8 30. Qg8 is mate.
@paulgebeline95487 жыл бұрын
Even if he doesn't take, he has no moves that will prevent a discovered attack by moving the bishop on the g file, threatening mate with no possible defenses from black.

46:06, in this position, what if Re8?! Rd1 Ne3 (so Rd1 is bad), if Re8 Rf3 Re1# and white gets mated so because white has backrank issues I don't think white can successfully trap the knight immediately.. Maybe white has to play a3. so something like Re8 a3 Re1 Ka2 and then white just uses the passed pawns to win...:) no need to capture the knight but just confine it's movements and isolate other pieces while pushing pawns to victory..at least that's how I'd play as white :)
