@chromabotia7 жыл бұрын
I don't have the definitive answer. But this is what I have heard from reputable sources. Stobe was crossing a railroad bridge outside of Baltimore. There is a fast (as fast as a train gets in the US) Amtrack passenger train that runs from Baltimore to DC that went by as Stobie was crossing the bridge. A train going by at say 115 mph generates a draft, a vacuum if you are near it. This is where it gets fuzzy. Apparently Stobe was knocked off balance as the train passed and he fell off the bridge to the water below, killing him. The Baltimore police have opened an investigation into his death. Stobie was a beautiful soul with a lust for life and freedom - I really miss him. I wish he never went to the northeast us. Way too much rail traffic and a lot of yard dicks. Thanks for asking, shows that you cared. GF - Detroit

"America is a lonely crock of s***" - Jack Kerouac from "Visions of Cody". This is so true. Some commenters seem to think that Jim is lost or something. In so many places in this country there is simply nothing there. "There's no point to this place," he sometimes says, and he probably did not know how right he is. I have traveled on Amtrak down where Stobe is here and that is the sense you get so often. No point. This is great stuff. So revelatory about the real America. Stobe was really on to something major. The American environment at night - the parked cars, the public squares at night, the emptiness of nearly every town he visits (or what I have seen so far). Miami Beach, from this perspective (to me the correct one) is peopled by ghosts, the crowded beach as empty as the swampy brush leading into Jacksonville.

It always seems like Jim is lost. In the sense that he is looking for something, and not knowing what it is. At first, I thought his videos were a joke. But then it dawned on me, that he is genuine. Jim sees the world from an angle that few take the time or slow down to see. Jim is a narrator and he tries to show the world his perspective. He is lost in the real world. Invisible. He is an aberration in the real world. His videos, show the absurdity of civilization. While Jim enjoys the most simple things, (cheap chicken and pizza and beer) and the joy of natural things around him. At the same time, Jim rejects the modern world, the sound of the highway, "is lame." But the blue sky and puffy white clouds, the bird free in flight, is held up as important enough for Jim to point out. Jim really wants to show us, that "every thing is not paved over." He invites us into his world. And he often, points out, there is no one else around. They are all locked up their multi-million dollar mansions. He often ponders that no one else is around. At the same complaining about being alone and not having anyone to enjoy the moment of a sunset or hiking into a state capitol. His deep angst, his loneliness of being a human is painful to watch. At the same instant, I find myself rooting for Jim, to make it, to keep going. Spoiler: Watch the last 5 videos ever posted by Jim. The videos get darker and darker. At one point, he hikes down the rail-road tracks that lead off into the pure darkness. Which still makes me wonder. Are Jim's videos deliberate? or just such a reflection of his mental state, that it is almost artistic as much a autobiographical? In response to the comment about Jim finding Jesus. I think it was the other way around. Also. If anyone misunderstands my comments, I am a huge fan of Stobe The Hobo. Despite his having die. RIP Stobe. Sometimes. I wake up in the middle of night and take pleasure in knowing that Jim is out there someplace in the darkness of the night. Note: This has been edited. Several times, for grammar, spelling and some topics. I took out the comments about the video were Jim walks past Rush Limbaugh house and talks about Trump.

In his short life, he lived and saw more than a lot of people ever will. Just because he doesn't fit under society's labels of success doesn't mean he didn't accomplish something great that inspires thousands of people. You know this if you actually watch his videos and look through the comments.

I dont understand why these episodes have not been sought after by the travel channel or some like network. The content is by far better than anything on mainstream media. It seems they would purchase the rights at a astronomical sum from our fearless host and run a series worth watching for a change. I just dont get why it's not already been done I mean, one little disclaimer flashed at the beginning of each episode and bam, they have something worth watching out there. There is better entertainment here than anything on mainstream networks, that's for sure. Great work JS, great commentary, excellent music. What are they waiting on?
@hobestobe7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. in reality, I think they don't want anything controversial on TV anywhere these days. theres a real mindset in place among program managers to not offend anyone, etc. I sought out a few networks and in the end nobody was interested. What was his regular job...he mentions he has been to Dubai, stays in the Wynn in Vegas, and has talked about stock puts on prior videos...he is obviously well educated and clothes most videos look relatively new....just curious

Paradoxically, though trespassing and existing upon and within the interstices of the North American commercial cargo rail system, Stobe the Hobo is literally at home there, wherever he happens to be geographically ,with his easy familiarity of railstock and route, whenever he is on a train or in a railyard. He is not lost, but everything around him is lost. Or, possibly, both he and they are lost, at the same time, together.

Good luck catching a ride on FEC back north, I almost never see anything else besides intermodal on those trains, the times I do see grains and other cars are usually at night heading south but you know way more than me haha.

Dead end state Fl. rode one time From Orlando to Baldwin yard Jacksonville. Grabbed out to Waycross, Ga. Couple days in the dead end yard. couple days camping, rode out to Savanna, back to Waycross and on up to Atlanta. When your in Fl. you will always have to back track to get back out. Baldwin yard, is your east coast start to heading west, all the way to California and all stops in between, Including new Orleans. Plenty of containers going a long ways.

Yes he did. There's some footage of him somewhere in his early videos playing the piano. Just one of the cool unique things he did

Cool stuff Stobe. That CSX siding you tied down on is called either "United" or "Delta," and it isn't all that far from where I live... The FEC rock/intermodal train is #336. Also, if you ever hop on the FEC again, go ahead and grab a train that leaves right near nightfall, or early nighttime. Options out of Miami are 222 and 226. They'll both put you in Jacksonville in the morning, around 8-10AM. I think the train YOU grabbed was 210. Either one works. :P You hopped off at the perfect spot too, the signals there are called Sunbeam. Thanks for the vids and happy hopping!
