Welcome to my art workshop where I carve wood and invent mechanical toys. In this video I explain how to make a simple automata, a mouse reading a book about cheese. Using wooden cam mechanism.

here is the third video! the first part sounds strange because it's actually the final greeting, I made a mistake in editing the video😂 with the audio I still have to make some adjustments, but I'm learning!

My dad and uncles used to make us toys like these in the early 60s. We loved them more than any store bought toy, and played with them until the paint wore off. Thank you for sharing this lost art.

If I had tried making this, I would have definitely messed up the inside of the book and the front cover! Always nice to see a pro just go for it! 🐭

Wow! These are all so cool! Thank you for the tutorial. I've never made a toy like this so I'll attempt one with cardboard 😊

Simple and effective. Something we can make at home. I will try making one from clay and cardboard.

A very enjoyable video! It's all very good but I think my favourite part is the shape of the pages of the book. And the music is well chosen - incidentally, can you remember the name and performers of the jazz guitar number which starts at about 2:18? Thanks so much, this is great fun!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful work and process! Magical and inspiring! Can you please share the brand of the band saw you use? Thanks!
@stoccafissodesign2569 Жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 the brand is Compa. it is not a quality tool, I bought it years ago in a large hardware store, paying little for it. it does its job, but it's not very accurate

very entertaining, also question, with the sanding what happens if you accidentally touch the belt while its going??
@stoccafissodesign256911 ай бұрын
Nothing serious, because is not very sharp, I touch it every day for error 😂 just some little scratch, but be careful, when the belt is new it is very dangerous, but I keep the belt for many months before changing it

Congrats! Beautiful! Do you ever use wax to help gears move easily?
@stoccafissodesign2569 Жыл бұрын
no because oil and wax make the wood swell slightly and increase its adherence, I use solid soap or paraffin
@catalateacher6812 Жыл бұрын
@@stoccafissodesign2569 Good to know!! I use wax for my closet drawers, so there's where my question comes from!! Keep them coming!! Beautiful work!!

@@stoccafissodesign2569 That is very kind of you!! do you come from a woodworking Family? My Dad was a "do-it-yourselfer", so I paid attention and fell in love with woodworking, but somehow making little objects has always been an entertainment for me. Now that I'm retiring, I want to focus on that!! Thanx again!! You have a new Fan!!

no, my father is a photographer, therefore always in the artistic field, but other material. I taught myself how to work wood. I have had a small woodworking shop for about 10 years, and now I make mechanical toys full time.
