This video was so helpful! I’ve purchased this deicer and am excited to use it when I need to here in Minnesota. I’ve been plunging for about four months, so this will be my first winter! A question - do you remove it before getting in the water? I’m also curious how long you typically plunge for when water temps are in the 30’s & 40’s?

Thanks! Yes I remove it before getting in 👍 I don’t time my dips. I go with the flow. Forcing to stay in for a specific length of time isn’t healthy. I did read that 10min should be an absolute max. And that short dips are best. The main benefits are achieved after the initial plunge and within the first 30-60sec. It has been suggested multiple short dips are better than one long dip. I have been guilty of staying in far too long on occasion and have experienced the beginning stages of hypothermia a couple times. But those instances were in my ice hike in the river when I was dipping with others and we had music going and the sun was shining down on us. It was easy to get carried away and let the adrenaline take over. Hope that helps! And happy dipping!!

I just watched all your videos for the cold plunge. I was looking of cheap ways of doing exactly this. This is awesome! We just finished installing a barrel sauna in the backyard and I wanted to do hot and cold therapy. Thank you. I might use the 110gallon tank though. Also I live in Ottawa too! :)

Hey man, you're live rn... February 10th ay the Ottawa freedom convoy. KZbin has restricted your live stream! It state that I can't watch unless your channel has more than 1,000 subs. You have 3,000... So as far as I can tell, now youtube is on the wrong side of history. Would've told you on the live feed but... I can't leave any comments on it either

I just got my de-icer delivered today, are you plugging yours into a GFCI outlet? Or a plug from the house or extension cord?

Hi, that’s great! im using a gfci outlet on the exterior of my house. With an extension cord. But it requires a heavy duty thick gauge cord. At first I tried a regular cord and thought the deicer was broken. But learned the 1250watt deicer won’t work unless a compatible Extension cord is used. Hope that helps. 👍

I'm really surprised by how low that number is! If it was running 24/7 for a month it would be almost 7x this amount of useage, so It really only turns on for a few hours a day. Interesting, thanks for sharing. I just bought a 1500W one, since I have twice the amount of water, it might run a lot more, time will tell. I just received my highest power bill ever, by 40% and I haven't even plugged it in yet. I think ya'll electricity rates in Ottawa are a lot cheaper than here, we're paying 17Cents per KWh in Nova Scotia

Sorry if I missed it but how many watts is your de-icer? I'm using a 360L trash can and its currently freezing up from all sides and need to act fast :O ! I have a good deal on a used 500W but it says it's effective up to 227L :S !

Hi Jayze. Mine is a 1500 watt. You might get away with a 500w if the surface area of the trash can isn’t very large. The main thing is that the surface stays below freezing.
