SaabKyle04 showed a video of his friend with a Cayman who put this exhaust on it, and while it sounded great, his video was on a dyno so all you can really hear is the dyno noise. Which led me to search and find this. You really captured the free revving and under load comparisons perfectly. Thank you so much, I'm definitely going to get this for my 987. Perfect sound.

The exhaust was paired with an ECU tune (only way to truly gain power from an exhaust upgrade). That said, I have defintely noticed the extra power. Drone exists between 2-3K, which is easy to shift around if you have a manual trans. At cruising speed, it is dead stock quiet. Absolutely no regrets.

Adam Wolfe I purchased an ECU tune online from Vivid Racing out of Scottsdale, AZ. You can buy it online, and they send you everything you need to interface and upload the ECU tune to your specific make/model. Extremely easy to do yourself, all you need is a Windows laptop. Completely reversible back to stock.

Any replacement of the original exhaust on the 986 is an improvement. I have just replaced it on my car, the back box (muffler) is a massive piece of metal weighing 17kg, which makes the car sound vertically like an electric vehicle. The replacement part weighs just 7kg and sounds rasping, well worth the time, money and effort to replace it.

Excellent video, like your '08 was, my '01 Boxster S is way to quiet (stock exhaust) for a Porsche roadster. I've been listening to all these different sounds for Boxster S models but your exhaust has the sound I'm looking for...I'm hoping you can tell me exactly which borla exhaust you have , is there a part number for your exhaust? Help ? Thanhs!

Details are in the video description, but keep in mind that you have a 1st gen Boxster vs. my 2nd gen. You need to look up the model number that works with your 2001. Good luck!

If you have emissions testing in your area how has the exhaust upgrade and ecu tune affected that?

+christopher johnson We do have testing in my area, but I haven't had to go yet since the install. The exhaust will not effect testing. They use the OBDII port of the car and don't use a "tailpipe sniffer" in my area. The O2 sensors remain in place with the Borla. I plan on re-flashing the ECU back to stock (easy 2min process via laptop) before the test, then flash it back afterwards.

I have the same exhaust set up, paired with EVOMS intake. It drones at 2200-2800 rpm to varying degree. The worst is at hilly highway. I have a manual so it’s easy to down shift or up shift to avoid the unwanted drones. You just gotta get used to it and adjust your driving.
