Let's face it, stock roll cages on SxS tend to suck. The YXZ cage is no exception. In this video, I do a comparison between the stock cage any my BCF aftermarket cage and explain why the stock cage is prone to failure.

I am 6"2" and I went with the BCF hybrid buggy cage. love it. its right in between the mid and tall boy. I find it perfect, there is enough clearance for my head and I always wear a helmet

Cool. I think that extra inch or two is all that is really needed. I think it would be fine with stock seats, it's just the gas tank that gets in the way and prevents you from maintaining seat height on the passenger side. On the driver side, I was able to drop the seat height 2" so 6' and over on the driver side is fine with mid height. I just don't want to give up the driver seat to my tall friends. LOL

we have not upgraded our seats yet and I have heard it does make the headroom a lot less. I may have to stick with the stock seats and just add some foam to them to keep the height right.

On the driver side, you can actually drop the seat an inch or 2 over stock. I think I picked up about 2" on the driver seat. It's just the passenger side that has the problem.

Seems the stock cage was designed to collapse and absorb energy. Also seems a more rigid cage would not collapse which may cause the machine to continue to roll. Thoughts?

I'm not sure that is what they were going for, I think it was more about cost savings. Cars do have crumple zones to do exactly what you describe but those crumple zones don't collapse into the passenger compartment. In fact, your car's A pillars are reinforced to avoid collapsing into the compartment. Therefore, to me it doesn't make sense that off road cars would be designed with crumple zones built into the cage. Logically it wouldn't make sense because collapsing into the passenger compartment puts the occupants at increased risk of head trauma or other injuries.

what was the overall height from ground to the highest point on the roof? What size did you get? The shorty?

Hey Mike, I ordered the mid height and it is 66" to the top of the B Pillar.

Do they make one that has the stock specifications so I can use my side skirts windshield and stock roof

I don't know of anyone that does. But you might try contacting Moses over at BCF to see what he might recommend. He's a pretty sharp guy and may have a suggestion. Most of the aftermarket stuff will come with a roof so it is more of a matter of being able to move your windscreen over. Perhaps they can fab up a mount that would let you transfer it over...it is just a hinge so I wouldn't think it would be that hard.

consult on stock YXZ cages? Not sure what you mean. The about page has contact info regarding business opportunities but not sure what value I would add to stock cages.
