Just wow! Think about how deep the evaluation had to be to see that the piece sacrifice would be worth it that early in the game- capped off with that amazing exchange sacrifice to eliminate white's only effective piece, the black squared bishop, to end up a rook down for 3 pawns, two of which were double, but connected together like a steamroller.

After 48...f5 a position was on the board unlike any I have ever seen in my life with Black's pawn structure strangely resembling a partially constructed bee hive! Just look at Black's pawn structure in that position! Philidor said "pawns are the soul of chess." But one can only wonder what Philidor would have thought of this game! Would he have liked it or would he have regarded the opening play of both sides as highly suspicious to say the least?

Grazie....

SF 15 has a really scary avatar. Looks awesome. This game is unbelievable. SF played with a rook down for so many moves. This other engine is definitely not a match to the SF, but I'm curious how would SF play against itself in some of these positions. I still can't believe that the position of white with a rook up was not holdable. It would be really interesting to hear opinion of some top 5 or top 10 GM about this game. How the best of human players would evaluate some of these positions. God knows how the game of Chess played by engines will look like in some 5 or 10 years from now. I would not be surprised if the engines already on the move 1 for black would evaluate the position lost (e4 c5 or e4 e6) like -2,5.

You can take the game and simply analyze it with Stockfish 14 or 15 itself to see if it was holdable.

@@yanceyward3689 I have installed SF 13 for some time ago (when it was first time available) and I have a quite old PC, I'm not sure I can install SF 15. For my own needs SF 13 is more than enough. But maybe I will do that one day when I buy a new PC, which will probably not happen any time soon due to the supply chain collapse, and other mismanagement all over the world. I don't intend to pay an arm and a leg for the new PC in this new era of global hysteria, nonsense and the eclipse of the human mind. But it is an idea worth considering once the things normalize (if we are all not vaporised in the meantime). Tnx for the tip!

Now, I don’t know the extent of Stockfish’s evaluation. My intuition is that Stockfish prunes nodes that are obviously not good, but then realizes that this position is not always bad, and should be worth searching, and so searches deeply (after some shenanigans searching other moves, but those should be efficient too for Stockfish).

Actually I have tried the same ideas in my games because I love sacrifices. But couldn't justify the sacrifice because of low accuracy. Could have won easily....
