@@edwardbrook2029 I’m not really a outdoorsmen, so sorry if I sound stupid, feel free for anyone to answer but say someone make a mini lake or a pond in their backyard, fills it with fish like this guy.. the fish keep reproducing and continue to make thousands of more fish right? So basically an unlimited food supplies if you wait long enough for them to have children? Kinda a surviving tactic if a thing like Covid were to hit again, you could literally live at home by growing crops, maybe have lots of chickens for eggs, fish in the pond, pigs for bacon and other things, I’d really love to do something like that .. would need to be educated on a lot of it
@65stang983 жыл бұрын
@@BruceWaynesFactory to answer your question yes it is one of the best survival tactics you can have. only so much water can support so many fish tho bc of natural food availability so research into how big you can make it on your property if you already have it. dig a pond fill it with some logs etc for cover and protection for bait fish like blue gill and crappie which can also be pan fired and taste well. get a good number of bass and catfish a couple carp to take care of algae only a few at the most tho or theyll eat too much of the algae and vegetation. and a garden with chickens for eggs and additional meat and hunt on the side youd have nothing to worry abt in a survival situation as long as you got a way to preserve it without electricity. thats the most important part.
@65stang983 жыл бұрын
alsoi doesnt hurt to put a fence apund the distant perimeter to keep snapping turtles from getting in your pond theyll eat more way more fish than the amount of meat you get when you catch them. better to have them not be able to get in. any turtles at that matter.

You should make a water fall/bio filter for your ponds. I live in the area and would help you if you're interested.
@JR-ii6hq3 жыл бұрын
I feel the bio filter, at least for the small pond would be necessary 🤔. The feeders would help until the populations stabilize?
@stevenhall89643 жыл бұрын
I agree the bio-filter is the way to go If you really want good clear water. Its healthier for the fish as well!

That's real nice of you. Don't know how deep his ponds are? If someone local has excavator maybe dredge some out first?
@mrfixitusa61653 жыл бұрын
Really!!?? I'm totally familiar with biofilters. I've been a "monster fish keeper" for quite some time and have used various different types on our 150 gallon aquarium and a couple different ones on the 60 gallon hospital tank, but I honestly thought that a pond would be large enough it would become its own biofilter. Now when I say "pond" I don't mean a big mud hole, like some folks call a "pond" or something the size of a dang swimming pool, I mean something you can get a boat in. At least a half acre... And how would one do a biofilter in a pond? Would you have a secondary tank like a sump for an aquarium, with a pump that continuously runs water over and through the biofilter to drain back into the pond?

I can help you catch those crawdads in your yard. Fill the hole to the top with water. Tie a small piece of bacon to one end of a string. Drop it in the hole til you feel the tug from the crawdad. Pull it up very slowly til it breaks the surface. Pull hard to jerk them out. They will often let go as soon as they see you. So, be quick. Have fun. I did this a million times when I was a kid.
@jprizzle26043 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t put threadfin in that small of pond, you will end up having to keep putting them in there cause there isn’t enough room for them to hide and things. It’s recommended that 2 acres is the smallest for threadfin unless you are wanting to just provide a food source and do it about once a month or so, but threadfin are exspensive, I guess it all depends if you are wanting to have a population of them or just for food and keep adding them.

Hey just a tip the container you use for the fish food isn’t air tight so the food will quickly get stale and get wet so it will sink faster and be less likely to be eaten. Might dirty your pond faster too My dogs have always been picky and like the fresh dry food straight from the bag
