Consider Red Eared Sunfish. They get big and breed slower than others.

I would not stock hybrids or any other predator fish into the pond. Other predator fish will compete with the bass for food and stunt their overall growth.

Other predator fish would be fish like gar, pickerel, perch, trout, walleye, bowfin, crappie, eels, etc. If you want a natural wild pond with a variety of fish and other animals, you could stock those with your bass, bluegill, redears, catfish and crawfish (especially if it's a HUGE pond). But, if you want a pond with extremely large bass, bluegill and catfish, most of those are not eligible .

Add a few flathead catfish and like 50 pounds of shiners. With all the green sunfish you catch keep them and freeze them. And feed them to the fish cut up like once a week. And add an automatic feeder

For crawfish use thin slices of cow heart and right before you place the trap put some frozen cat food in the trap. Cat food draws them in as it defrosts, the heart keeps them sustained while they wait for harvesting.

You can stock The hybrids and they won’t over populate so if you stalk like 20 you can see how they do! They also taste amazing and I would definitely get a fish feeder and use high protein food. Depending of how many minnows,tadpoles and crayfish you stock would depend on how much I would feed. What’s the depth of your pond? Small mouth would be awesome!

You should get an aerator system if you haven't already. Just added one to my 1/2 acre pond, keeps it from turnover/die off when it gets hot. You could also keep the water open with it for ducks.

Just an idea I’ve seen other people do, shouldn’t you put in some 3-5 pounders that you catch from other lakes and ponds? That way they can grow big and help take down the stunted population of green sunfish and crappies so there is a lot more food and less completion for the bluegills. If you don’t the population of primary consumers will be continuously stunted if not taken care of.

I'd keep the green sunfish. They r great live baits and last about 3x as long on the hook than bluegill for flatheads and even blues if u guys ever plan on doing some river fishing for big catfish.

Hybrids are a bad idea if you are talking about wipers. The F1 strain of largemouth bass is what I have my pond stocked with, They grow fast and are very active! Also get those darn green sunfish out they are nothing but trouble!!! Best of luck to you man!!

I have to say I completely agree, pure example of how people think having some money is a good substitute for knowledge and proper fishery management. In ALOT of places carp are a devastatingly invasive species. There are places where it is open season and kill on them. You should go to those places and catch them and then relocate them to "safer" home's

If you are trying to get rid of green sunfish don't stock hybrid bluegill. The hybrids will revert back to green sunfish over time. The best scenario for big bass is overstocked bluegill and slightly under stocked bass. I wouldn't stock too many catfish either. They will compete with your bass for forage. Next I would install a few feeders around your pond. If you feed the forage they will grow and spawn more. Then just selectively harvest some bass as needed. Just my two cents. It worked for my pond....

Bait: Fathead minnows, Bluegills, and Gizzard Shad Game: Hybrid Bluegills, BLACK Crappie, Bucketmouths, Channels Depends on your wallet, but having those fatheads will feed all the smaller bass until they switch to gills, and then the giants will eat primarily the shad. You could also start supplementing pellet food as well and everything will pack on weight twice as fast.
